- September 18, 2014 Australian police thwart ISIL beheading plot USA Today Police said they thwarted a plot to carry out beheadings in Australia by supporters of the radical Islamic State group by detaining 15 people and raiding more than a dozen properties across Sydney on Thursday. More than 800 Australian officers raided dozens of properties in the suburbs of Sydney on Thursday, in an operation to thwart an apparent Islamic State terror plot to carry out random attacks on the public, police said. Prime Minister Tony Abbott confirmed to reporters that a senior group leader in the Islamic State, also known as ISIS or ISIL, was calling on supporters to carry out beheadings. But professor of International Relations and Security Studies at Murdoch University Samuel Makinda sees no ISIS threat to Australia or other nations outside the middle east. 2014 Australian counter-terrorism raids On the morning on 18 September 2014, police in Australia carried out the biggest counter-terrorism operation in the nation's history, with over 800 heavily armed officers targeting households in the cities of Sydney and Brisbane. It came days after the Australian government raised the terror threat from medium to high due to concerns about Australian citizens returning to the country after fighting with the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).[1] Following the raids, two people were charged, one with terrorism offences and the other for possession of an unauthorised firearm.[2] 25 homes were raided in Bass Hill, Revesby, Regents Park and elsewhere.[3] The raids were triggered after the interception of one phone call.[4] Computers, documents and a firearm were collected during the raid.[5] Fifteen people were detained and eleven people were subsequently charged with terrorism tags Islamic terrorism in Australia

- September 18, 2014 Pope Francis: Christianity’s Turn to Suffer Religious Persecution It is Christianity's "turn" to suffer religious persecution, Pope Francis told a World Jewish Congress delegation visiting his home in Rome Wednesday night, saying that Christians are being killed while the world remains silent. Francis and World Jewish Council President Ronald Lauder both condemned attacks against the world's Christians, reports Haaretz, particularly in the Middle East, where extremists with the Islamic State (ISIS) have targeted Christians in Iraq and Syria. "In the world, there is still great suffering," the pope told the delegation. "First it was your turn. Now it's our turn." Christians in Iraq and Syria are even being identified with a symbol bearing the letter Jewish letter nun, or N, for Nazarene, which he said identifies Christians' homes much "as the yellow star was used in the past against European Jewry." "Israel is the only place that is safe for Christians in the Middle East, " Lauder said. The Pope has in the said that ISIS should be stopped, reports The Telegraph, saying "in cases like this, where there is an unjust aggression, then it is licit to halt the aggressor."

But it was only the latest form of harassment that Chinese authorities have used against any group that mobilizes people outside their control, even if they are not aiming to challenge or criticize the Communist Party. Sometimes authorities resort to detentions, beatings and confiscations. The crackdown has hit everyone from Christian churches to independent filmmakers whose activities are not overtly political
