January 30, 2014 Jose Angel Garcia-Jauregui Ambushes Utah Deputy Jose Angel Garcia-Jauregui was in his truck with a juvenile girl when they fired out of the back window and killed a Utah deputy who was checking on the licence plate after stopping to help. . The Utah Board of Pardons and Parole released him, though they had issued a warrant for his arrest just days before the slaying of Wride, 44, said Utah County Sheriff Jim Tracy.
Steve Gehrke, spokesman for the Utah Department of Corrections, said an arrest warrant had been issued for Garcia-Jauregui on Wednesday after he failed to check in, report a change in residence or to maintain a job, as required under his parole conditions.
According to a recent hearing results report issued by the Utah Board of Pardons, Garcia-Juaregui was on parole. His case was reviewed in December and again on Jan. 21. A notation on his case says he was "not to remain in or enter the United States illegally." He owes restitution of $8,233 in a previous case.
Garcia-Juaregui came to prison April 22, 2008, after being convicted of second-degree felony attempted murder and third-degree aggravated assault. He was released to a halfway house on Dec. 4, 2012, according to Gehrke, where he spent a week.
While in prison, Garcia-Juaregui had eight disciplinary notices for an assault and possessing contraband.
