January 12, 2014 Grenade Injures Firefighters At Mindanao Science College At the Cotabato Foundation College of Science and Technology Mindanao, Phillipines, a man tossed a grenade near a firetruck as firefighters and police were fighting a fire which may have been set in building for security guards as a lure. The blast injured more than 24 people. In November a bomb was found by the flagpole but may have been set to scare rather than detonate.

Firefighters, disaster-response personnel and police were trying to control the fire in a bunkhouse of security guards at the state-run Cotabato Foundation College of Science and Technology late on Sunday (jan 12) in Arakan town when somebody lobbed a grenade near a firetruck
In November, police found a bomb made from a mortar round near the school's flagpole and main administrative building but it was not rigged to explode and apparently was set to scare people,..nearby towns and provinces which have come under attack from Muslim fighters in the past. Communist fighters, though, have a presence but it was not immediately clear if they played a role in Sunday's attack.

    KIDAPAWAN CITY, North Cotabato – Twenty-four persons were wounded, 17 of them in critical condition, when an improvised explosive device went off inside a state-run college in Arakan, North Cotabato on Sunday night. Senior Inspector Rolly Oranza, police chief of Arakan, said the blast came while a fire was in progress inside the campus of Cotabato Foundation College of Science and technology in Barangay Poblacion around 8 p.m.
    “A fire hit the presidential cottage inside the campus where school security guards temporarily reside,” Oranza said.
    Oranza said investigation showed that fire was intentional as arson investigators recovered containers with gasoline and chemical residue.
    Most of the victims were teachers, students, security guards and police personnel who had responded to the fire....Last September, an improvised explosive device was planted in front of the school’s flagpole but a security guard found it before it could explode. Police later defused the bomb, which was made from an 81-mm mortar shell.
KIDAPAWAN CITY, Philippines—Eight persons were wounded when an improvised explosive device (IED) went off inside a state college in Arakan, North Cotabato, shortly before 8 p.m. Sunday. Inspector Rolly Oranza, the town police chief, said the wounded included a disaster officer and a policeman. Oranza, however, did not give the identities of the wounded. The explosion took place beside the Presidential Cottage of the Cotabato State College of Science and Technology. Oranza said police earlier received information regarding the discovery of an IED. As police were cordoning the area, the explosive went off, wounding the victims.

Monday August 5, 2013 6 killed in Cotabato City blast-COTABATO CITY—A powerful bomb apparently rigged to a vehicle  exploded here on Monday afternoon, killing at least six people and injuring 29 others, including policemen.
The bomb exploded as a bulletproof SUV, carrying City Administrator Cynthia Guiani-Sayadi, was passing by.
