Thursday May 15, 2014 2 stabbed to death, 1 injured, 1 arrested James Watts botched bank robbery stabs 3 women, 2 to death  In St. Louis former convict and registered sex offender James Watts, 29 was charged Friday with a federal weapons count linked to a botched southern Illinois bank holdup. At bank closing, the gunman confronted the three victims, and forced the women back inside but, because the bank was closed, got no money from it, The suspect placed the victims' purses into a victim's SUV and fled. Two women stabbed to death and a third critically injured by a knife were found in a break room by  police.  The dead have been identified as 52-year-olds Anita J. Grace and Nita Jo Smith. After a 100 mph chase, Watts was arrested on an Ohio River train trestle with a semi-automatic pistol in his hooded sweatshirt.Watts had been sentenced to seven years in Illinois prison after pleading guilty in 2003 to felony charges that he sexually abused a child who was 11 years old.

He then was next seen robbing a bank about 300 miles away in Tupelo, Mississippi. When police stopped a white car that was reported to be the getaway vehicle, Garnett got out of another car and ambushed the two officers, and officer Gale Stauffer died. Garnett was shot December 28 by a police detective after a bank robbery in Phoenix Arizona. He had used a rental car. He had previously been arrested in 2010 for leaving a threatening comment on a White House website ""If you order a strike on Iran, I'm going to come up there and blow your brains out on national TV" and cursing Israel.

The North Hollywood shootout was an armed confrontation between two heavily armed and armored bank robbers and officers of the Los Angeles Police Department in the North Hollywood district of Los Angeles on February 28, 1997. It resembled a terrorist attack more than just a robbery as a motive.

November 28, 1996 Scott Scurlock Seattle Hollywood Bandit William Scott Scurlock killed himself after police caught up to him following a botched robbery in which a chase which led to a shootout with several handguns and automatic rifles.  He used  Hollywood quality make-up to successfully robbed dozens of banks in the Seattle area and would escape in a van in which he could remove his makeup. The number of robberies, 18 in total, and the amounts stolen, almost $2.3 million, make Scurlock one of the most prolific bank robbers in the history of the United States. His motive for bank robberies were rooted at his anger at the government rather than just making money and he donated money to environmentalist causes. His accomplices, Steven Paul Meyers and Mark John Biggins, were each sentenced to 21 years imprisonment.

The perpetrator killed four bank guards as well as holding up six tellers in the bank's cash vault. An estimated $200,000 was stolen from the bank. Nearly three weeks later, on July 4, 1991, authorities arrested retired police officer James W. King, age 55 at the time, for the crime. The subsequent trial was broadcast nationally on Court TV. After a highly publicized trial and nine days of deliberation, the jury acquitted Mr. King. The crime remains unsolved and is considered a cold case.[1][2]
