AURORA, COLORADO -- Police have identified the suspect in the shooting death of 67-year-old Flint native Josephine Echols as 29-year-old Denver resident Kiarron Parker.
Frank Fania, a public information officer for the Aurora Police Department, said Parker became upset Sunday afternoon and left in a car while being followed by a friend in a separate vehicle."He took off in his own car at a high rate of speed," he said. "His friend lost him along the way."
The friend asked someone on the street if they'd seen a recent accident, Fania said, and they pointed in the direction of the church.
Fania said Parker drove down an alleyway and up over a landscape median before he struck a car in the parking lot of Destiny Center Church.
"That’s where he got out of the car," said Fania. "It was fairly close to the church where the church services were going on. That’s where the suspect pulled out a gun and started shooting."
Parker tried to shoot at several church members who had come outside to try and help, but Fania said his gun did not fire at first.
