Police accept "voices" and "ghosts" and "imaginary threats" as a motive, but they won't even consider not terrorism if it can be explained by mental illness.

1 injured, 5 shootings, 2 vehicles, 2 buildings hit, suspect arrested February 24, 2015 Amok Korean Hong Young Arrested in NSA, Freeway Mall Movie Theater Shooting Spree Hong Young, 35, of Beltsville Md is believed to be responsible for five shootings in Maryland starting February. He fired at two moving vehicles, telling police he heard voices directing him to fire on one of the occupied vehicles. it does not appear to be related to any potential domestic terrorism.

1 terroristic threat January 31, 2014 threat, July 28, 2014 arrest Hong Minh Truong Sent 500 and Superbowl Hoax Anthrax Letters  In the first terrorist style threat on the Superbowl, white anthrax-like powder found in packages sent to hotels in New York City and the mayor turn out to be harmless threats. Hong Minh Truong Sent More Than 500 Hoax Anthrax Letters Huffington Post Hong Minh Truong arrested accused of sending more than 15 batches of letters from the Dallas area, for six years starting in 2008. In all but two of the batches, a white-powder substance was put in the envelopes. The hoax letters were mailed to cities across the U.S. and to U.S. Embassies abroad. Most recently, some letters were mailed to hotels in the vicinity of this year's Super Bowl in New Jersey... focused on Truong after an IP address associated with him was identified after 28 public schools in Boston received letters in June 2013, according to the complaint. The mailings, also sent to U.S. embassies around the world, frequently contained the same disjointed rant. "Al Qaeda back!," In 2002, Truong told police he hears voices in his head. He claimed the FBI, DEA, ATF and police are after him and beaming radar into his body.

On Friday January 3, two days after the fire, Mr. Feng called the police dispatcher and identified himself in Chinese as the person who "made the fire" Yan Feng, 39, of Daly City. told FBI agents in an interview after his arrest that her targeted the Chinese consulate because all the voices he had been hearing were in Chinese and the Chinese consulate had to have been involved.” The FBI believes that terrorism, politics or civil rights were not involved.

November 14, 2013 Homeless Cannibal in France Hears Voices, Eats Man's Heart and Tongue A young homeless man who claimed he heard voices in his head killed a man in France and then ate his tongue and heart and set fire to the house.

Wednesday October 23, 2013  Voices Tell Belarus Illegal Immigrant To Set Church Afire In Burlington Vermont, Alaiksandr Bychkou, 32, told authorities a cover story that voices told him there was a treasure in the steeple at the CollegeStreet Congregational Church but he didn't find any. He was found in the church basement as the steeple erupted in flames and smoke.  Bychkou is a Belarus native who overstayed his visa. He was facing federal deportation proceedings in 2014. He was warned four years before he was in the United States illegally and was facing a deportation proceeding in Boston in 2014.He was picked up in Reno, Nevada, and was deportable. The church was not destroyed, but the steeple was a total loss.

Vancouver boy 11 bring handgun, knives and ammo to school October 23, 2013 Vancouver, Washington An 11-year-old boy is arrested for investigation of attempted murder after bringing a gun, knives and more than 400 rounds of ammunition to his Vancouver middle school, and he has been expelled. The parents called after they noticed knives were missing. Frontier Middle School notified police that ammo had been discovered at the school. There were no previous indications of problems with the student. The student told a judge an unlikely cover story that voices told him to shoot at a bully in the arm to protect a friend, and then shoot himself.

October 17, 2013 Knife-wielding man arrested, children OK after Arkansas bus hijacking  Miller told authorities that people were after him and that he needed to take the bus to save his life. He said he had no plans to hurt any of the children or the driver.

1 killed by police October 3, 2013 Miriam Carey. an unarmed woman in a black Infiniti coupe with CT plates was shot after she tried to breech barriers at the White house, then led police on a chase towards the Capitol campus. She rammed a squad car one block from the Capitol, then continued where she shot one block past the campus with a child in the back seat. Authorities have ruled out terrorism and believe it is an isolated incident, and definitely not a dry run for a real armed attack. Her mother thought she suffered from depression, while the Huffington Post speculated she apparently complained that Obama was stalking her indicating a possible political motive. .Miriam Carey reportedly feared President Obama was stalking her,...  woman had made delusional “expressions about the president in the past” and believed President Barack Obama was communicating to her, the official said. “Those communications were, of course, in her head,”

Washington Navy Yard shooting Wikipedia On September 16, 2013, Aaron Alexis, a lone gunman armed initially with a shotgun, fatally shot twelve people and injured three others in a mass shooting. Heard voices from electronic devices

Seattle Yacht Club Boat Rampage September 15, 2013 22-year-old Texas man visiting Washington Michael Bray was naked from waist down when commandeered the Para-a-gon, a 42-foot Bayliner yacht at the Queen City Yacht Club in Seattle. He had broken into the locked cabin to find the keys. He went on a rampage ramming other boats and docks before citizen Dve Svensen borrowed a gun and wounded him in the face and hands with a shotgun because he was about to hit a boat where someone lived aboard. He was hospitalized having caused an estimated $483,000 damage. He told police a cover story that he drank a six-pack of beer and was taking ecstasy and psychedelic mushrooms, and that he was a CIA agent who had to knock an "asian female ninja" from a Steven Segal movie off the boat who had been shooting at him.

September 14, 2013 Random Stabbing Kills Professor after Sounders soccer game After a Seattle Sounders soccer game, suspect 44 year old Donnell Jackson was arrested after he stabbed english professor Troy Wolff to death as he defended his partner Kristin Ito who was also stabbed but survived. The suspect dropped the knife and he told arresting officers that he saw the man aim a gun at him at the train station and the victims were part of a group holding people hostage in South Seattle, and he recorded the whole thing on a cellphone that he threw onto the railroad tracks. Described as a black male who was "dangerous and mentally ill", Jackson told police he was schizophrenic and off his medication for months and his family was worried about his mental health. He had violated his probation in California for setting a grass fire near a highway.

Voices Cause $13M Pullman WSU Dorm Fire July 14, 2013 In Pullman Washington, Bryan Lee Kitchen, 31 arrested July 22 in connection with a massive July 14th fire at Washington State University which in which explosions from propane tanks destroyed four buildings at the nearly finished Grove $13M dormitory complex and clubhouse and several vehicles. Kitchen, who worked for a plumbing sub-contractor at the construction site, reportedly told detectives voices told him to do bad things

April 8, 2011 Arsonist swung pickaxe at neighbour - Blackpool Gazette the defendant who torched a flat and attacked a neighbour with a pickaxe has been detained in hospital – and may never be released. He had distressing auditory hallucinations and heard voices telling him to do things. He said Matthews now understood he suffered from a mental illness which had contributed to his criminal behaviour in the past. Matthews has a long record including committing wounding, assault and grievous bodily harm. He had previously been sent to jail for making hoax emergency calls, and convicted of aggravated burglary has possibly suffered from psychotic illness for a decade.
