School Attacks
October 23, 2013 Vancouver, Washington An 11-year-old boy is arrested for investigation of attempted murder after bringing a gun, knives and more than 400 rounds of ammunition to his Vancouver middle school, and he has been expelled. The parents called after they noticed kitchen knives were missing. The boy was taken to principal's office where they found a .22-caliber handgun in his pants pocket and two loaded magazines in another pocket, and more ammunition and the knives in his backpack, and he stated he intended to shoot at the end of school so everybody could see.
There were no previous indications of problems with the student. The student told a judge an unlikely cover story that voices told him to shoot at a bully in the arm to protect a friend that he called gay, and then shoot himself. The Navy Yard shooter Aaron Alexis also heard electronic voices before he went on a shooting spree, and the suspect in a $13m arson fire at Washington State University also blamed voices.
The boy cursed at the juvenile court commissioner who decided Tuesday he should remain in custody after finding out the boy’s family had ignored the advice of mental-health professionals, though they had taken the boy to professionals three times and thought they disabled guns in the home. The boy has anger-management problems that intensify when authority figures give him instruction. He cursed at officers who had to remove the boy after he refused to leave. "Airport boy" who sneaked aboard a Las Vegas flight was also uncooperative when arrested by police, and appeared to be acting out terroristic crimes normally perpetrated by older adults or teens.
This is the fourth incident of teens with deadly weapons this week so far, a sign that there is a common hand rather than a random incident.
