January 13, 2014 Florida Movie Theater Shooting Kills One Over Texting Retired Tampa Police Department officer, Curtis Reeves was arrested after a Florida movie theater shooting in Wesley Chapel before the screening of 'Lone Survivor', a surprise hit movie about survival of attacks by the Taliban in Afghanistan. Reeves became agitated with Chad Oulson for texting before the movie began, and after an argument Reeves fired a gun at Oulson and his wife. Nicole was wounded in her hand blocking the gun. to her hand, before Chad was struck. It recalled the unprovoked July 2012 Aurora Colorado theater shooting that killed 12 and wounded 70. No news reports speculated on whether the shooting could have been connected to a terrorist motive or a group sympathetic to the Taliban

Attorneys are still wrangling over witness depositions and forensics evidence, but Siracusa asked them to set aside March 2-20 as a potential time period for the trial. He had wanted to hold the trial in February, but attorneys said they still have too much pre-trial work to do for the trial to happen that soon.

they had heard from another theater patron who said the 71-year-old former Tampa cop saw her texting and "glared at her the entire time throughout the movie" during a screening about three weeks ago. When the woman got up to use the restroom, Reeves followed her and "made her very uncomfortable," prosecutors said. CNN affiliate WTSP later identified the woman as Jamira Dixon of Wesley Chapel,

attorney, Richard Escobar, tried to persuade Circuit Court Judge Lynn Tepper that his client was actually the victim in the incident and that Oulson was the "aggressor."

Police said despite Reeves' claim that he was in fear for his safety, this was not a case for Florida's "stand your ground" defense.... there was no physical contact during the incident. It was popcorn, thrown by Oulson, that struck Reeves... Chad Oulson was a former U.S. Navy petty officer, serving from 1990 to 1997,
