- 5 Hurt When NC Fair Vortex Ride Starts Up October 24, 2013 9:17 p.m. at the North Carolina State Fair in Raleigh, five were injured, two seriously when as they were getting of the Vortex pendulum-swing thrill ride ride when it started up unexpectedly. It was 11 years on the same day when a worker was killed by a ride at that fair. There was a crashing sound and then two people were seen face down, as the ride operator fell to his knees crying. Five passengers were ejected and were all initially unconscious after trying to exit. The victims were ages 14 to 39. The operator was arrested and charged with assault and it was found the ride had been tampered with so that it would keep running.

- October 24, 2013 Near Atlanta, GA, a Clayton county officer stopped by the side of the interstate highway to investigate a suspicious man. After questioning, the suspect became combative and tried to grab the officer's gun. The officer beat him to it and shot him.
- Millington Tennesee Naval Base Shooting October 24, 2013 At a naval base in Millington, near Memphis Tennessee, the base was put on lockdown after two were shot. One report was a National Guardsman got into a fight with two other soldiers near the base. One reportedly pulled a gun, striking one man in the foot and the second in the leg. Another report was the shooter was a Navy recruiter who had been relieved of duty. A suspect was taken into custody and lockdown ended after 90 minutes Fired National Guard recruiter Amos Patton held in Tenn. armory shooting cbs news A Tennessee National Guard recruiter shot three fellow soldiers at an armory north of Memphis after he was ordered to the facility to be relieved of duty because of alleged misconduct, according to a criminal complaint filed in federal court Friday. - Massive Crashes Both Directions Seattle I-5 October 24, 2013 At 6:45 a.m. the major freeway through Seattle I5 was closed northbound by a 7-10 vehicle pileup near Boeing field for over an hour. The crash was caused by a speeding driver following too close. A critically injured victim had to be extricated from the vehicle and was was unresponsive when he was transported to Harborview. An hour later, another collision at nearly the same location involved 5 vehicles injuring 5 in the southbound lanes. 30 people were evaluated for injuries. Northbound traffice was not restored until 8:40 a.m. The two soundbound lanes were cleared by 8:10 a.m.

He was the former president of Governor Juan F. Luis Hospital and Medical Center on the U.S. Virgin Island of St. Croix, according to his biography.

- Teacher Colleen Ritzer Murdered By Teen in Danvers Massachusetts
- Tuesday October 22, 2013 14 year old Philip Chism was reported missing and later as the suspect in the murder of Danvers High School math teacher Colleen Ritzer. Ritzer age 24, was reported missing at about 11:20 p.m. Tuesday when she did not return home and did not answer her cellphone. Police searched the school and found blood in a second-floor bathroom, and Colleen Ritzer’s body was found in the woods behind the school. The boy was was found by Topsfield police at 12:30 a.m. walking along Route 1. Chism's family had moved to Massachusetts from Tennessee the past summer, and has a 7-year-old girl. One neighbor called Chism "like a nice quiet boy."

- Student Shoots Teacher, self in Nevada middle school shooting October 21, 2013 2 are dead, 2 injured in shooting at Sparks Middle School in northern Nevada outside Reno. Several were shot as classes were starting around 7:16 am. Two young boys are currently in critical condition. A 13 year old said a teacher get shot when he confronted what appeared to be a boy walk into the Sparks Middle School, armed with a gun, then he shot himself.

Argument is just cover story for mass shooting man who paid to enter Drai's got into an argument with management when he wanted his cover fee refunded. The argument led the suspect to pull out a gun and shoot a manager at the club. Police said at least three people - one patron and two security guards - tried to get a hold of the gunman. The patron was shot and killed while the two security guards were wounded by gunfire The suspect was taken into custody.

- October 21, 20132 A 30-year old woman Naida Asiyalova who had recently converted to Islam blew up a bus in a suicide bombing in Volgograd, southern Russia, killing as many as six. She was from Russia's restive North Caucasus republic of Dagestan, which has been riven by Islamist-inspired violence for more than a decade. 27 were taken to a hospital. An Islamist insurgency has been especially resilient in Dagestan and fueled separatist wars in the neighboring republic of Chechnya. The Boston marathon bombers were Islamist militants with ethnic ties to Chechnya.

- Eastern Michigan University Football Player Demarius Reed Killed Demarius Reed, a standout football player a college football player at Eastern Michigan University was found shot to death on Friday, Oct. 18, 2013, near the college campus. He was a junior and a starting wide receiver. There was a party the previous night, and there was a fight in the parking lot with gunshots heard. Evidently people passed by Reed's crumpled body resting on the landing in a stairwell, assuming he had passed out but his body was not discovered until 7:15 a.m. Police believe he was killed sometime after 3 a.m. and are considering it a homicide, though some believe he may have been robbed before being murdered.
- Lawrence E. 'Shine' Thornton Another Veteran Beaten By Youths October 18, 2013 Beloved WWII veteran 87-year old Lawrence E. Shine Thornton of Greenville, Miss. was mugged by four minority youths. The man was attacked in his driveway by two men who 'pushed him down and stole his wallet', and he died of two days later, Four teens Terrance Morgan, 19; Edward Johnson,19; Leslie Litt, 18; and Geblonski Murray, 18 have been charged with capital murder
- Bombing in Kabul that targeted an international convoy as it left the heavily-fortified Green Village, a residential complex that houses U.S. military contractors, European diplomats, and U.N. employees (BBC, NYT, Reuters). According to Sediq Sediqqi, an Interior Ministry spokesman, a militant detonated a car bomb as two vehicles were leaving the facility, killing a family of a six in a passing vehicle.

- Man Hijacks Arkansas School Bus October 17, 2013 Nicholas John Miller, a white male who works at a warehouse used a knife and threats to hijack a school bus, and took over driving. He kept driving through red lights and striking guard rails when pursued by a police car with flashing lights, but drove off the highway where he surrendered before reaching tire spikes laid to stop the bus. Miller's cover story was that he was running from people after him, and was only trying to save his own life, not hurt anybody in the bus. Miller was charged with vehicle piracy, 12 counts of kidnapping, two counts of aggravated assault, one count of fleeing, one count of DWI-Drugs, one count of refusal, and one count of reckless driving. Just the week before, Miller was arrested for terroristic threats in a domestic dispute when he was he was high on methamphetamine. The month before, Miller was arrested for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia on a traffic stop for improper license plate tags. In May, Miller was arrested breaking in to a car and stealing cash and guns.

- 5 wounded 2 arrested Saturday October 12, 2013 Five shot when two fire into Oklahoma Hmong festival At 8 p.m. a man walked into a Hmong American Association festival near Tulsa Oklahoma and started shooting into a crowd of 300 to 400 people with a pistol, wounding five. Two Asian men, Boonmlee Lee, 21, and his nephew Meng Lee, 19 were arrested when a police helicopter spotted a vehicle leaving the area with its lights out. The face five counts of shooting with intent to kill along with weapons possession charges. Detectives suspect Boonmlee was the triggerman. There did not appear to be a motive but detectives believe the suspects had some sort of connection to people at the celebration. A .40 caliber semiautomatic handgun was recovered. Nhia Vang, 75 saw the gunman open fire six feet away from him after a toast and people were lining up for dinner but he was unhurt as one bullet went through his shirt, but he was uninjured. Both suspects and all those shot were ethnic Hmong from Laos. No one seemed to know the suspects or what prompted the attack. “We used that banquet hall for seven years, and there’s never been anything like it. The Hmong fought the communists along the Ho Chih Minh trail in Laos for the CIA during the Vietnam war, but suffered with the US pulled out of the conflict. They originated in ancient times from China, as many as 4,000 Hmong may live in the state.
- JERUSALEM, Israel October 11, 2013 Palestinians wielding axes and iron bars killed an Israeli man outside his home in the West Bank. The military stopped short of calling the assault a “terror attack,” saying that an investigation was still underway. a 9-year-old girl was wounded in a suspected Palestinian attack while playing outside her home in a West Bank settlement. An Israeli soldier was shot and killed last month by a sniper in the West Bank city of Hebron. And in a separate incident an Israeli soldier was lured to the West Bank and killed by a Palestinian who wanted to trade the body for his brother who is serving time in an Israeli jail for shooting and bomb attacks.
- 4 injured October 10, 2013 Finland Vocational College Student Stabbing Spree A 16 year old student at the Myllytulli vocational college in Oulu Finland stabbed and seriously injured four people in his school. It was the latest of a number of violent school attacks over the past few years. The motive remained unknown, however, the suspect had been interviewed by police in February over the alleged online threats. He was arrested and admitted to the attacks, and faces charges of attempted murder. In 2008 a student at the Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences shot and fatally injured 10 before committing suicide. In the Jokela school shooting in November 2007 nine people including the gunman died. Before that, only one other school shooting had taken place in the country's history, in Rauma in 1989, leaving two people dead.

- Khalid Ouazzani from Kansas City Sentenced For Aiding Al Qaida Khalid Ouazzani from Kansas City who swore allegiance to al-Qaida and sent money to the global terrorist organization was sentenced Monday to 14 years in federal prison. A naturalized U.S. citizen from Morocco, he had admitted in May 2010 that he had funneled $23,500 to al-Qaida after swearing an oath of allegiance to the organization in June 2008. Another defendant Sabirhan Hasanoff, a Brooklyn accountant, was sentenced to 18 years in prison, while Wesam El-Hanafi, a Brooklyn information technology security specialist was awaiting his sentence.

Police are looking for the suspects in what may be a hate crime. The assailant was later found to be a newly arrived soldier, and officials did not believe anti-white bias was a motive.

- Wah Mee Massacre October 25, 2013 Tony Ng was to be paroled from prison for this role in the Wah Mee Massacre. The crime was committed on February 19, 1983 In Seattle's Chinatown in the Wah Mee gambling club. It was a multiple homicide on in which Chinese Americans Kwan Fai "Willie" Mak, Wai-Chiu "Tony" Ng, and Benjamin Ng gunned down fourteen people. Chin survived to identify the suspects, the others in the deadliest mass shooting in Washington state history. Tony Ng was arrested October 4, 1984 in Canada, and was acquitted in April 1985 of murder, but convicted of thirteen counts of first-degree robbery and a single count of assault with a deadly weapon. In October 26, 2013 it was announced Tony Ng will be paroled from prison.

- Ridgecrest Gunman Shoots At Traffic and Hostages in Trunk October 25, 2013 In Ridgecrest California, officers were investigating a 5:15 a.m. call to a home where one woman was dead and another man had multiple gunshot wounds when a gunman called up police on an officer's cellphone telling them he wanted to come to the police station and "kill all the officers but they had too many guns." He led police on an hour long chase after he was spotted leaving town, firing a handgun and shotgun at other cars 10 to 12 times and forcing other cars off the road. Officers saw that he had a man and woman as hostages in the trunk when he stopped briefly to show the police who he had put there, and sped off again. Seven officers opened fire when he stopped again and fired at the trunk through his backseat, and he was killed. The police found the two in the truck had gunshot wounds, but are not certain when they were wounded, and were already familiar with the suspect who has not yet been identified

- 5 Hurt When NC Fair Vortex Ride Starts Up October 24, 2013 9:17 p.m. at the North Carolina State Fair in Raleigh, five were injured, two seriously when as they were getting of the Vortex pendulum-swing thrill ride ride when it started up unexpectedly. It was 11 years on the same day when a worker was killed by a ride at that fair. There was a crashing sound and then two people were seen face down, as the ride operator fell to his knees crying. Five passengers were ejected and were all initially unconscious after trying to exit. The victims were ages 14 to 39. The operator was arrested and charged with assault and it was found the ride had been tampered with so that it would keep running.

- Massive Crashes Both Directions Seattle I-5 October 24, 2013 At 6:45 a.m. the major freeway through Seattle I5 was closed northbound by a 7-10 vehicle pileup near Boeing field for over an hour. Police searched the school and found blood in a second-floor bathroom, and Colleen Ritzer’s body was found in the woods behind the school. - Eastern Michigan University Football Player Demarius Reed Killed Demarius Reed, a standout football player a college football player at Eastern Michigan University was found shot to death on Friday, Oct. 18, 2013, near the college campus. He was a junior and a starting wide receiver. There was a party the previous night, and there was a fight in the parking lot with gunshots heard. Evidently people passed by Reed's crumpled body resting on the landing in a stairwell, assuming he had passed out but his body was not discovered until 7:15 a.m. Police believe he was killed sometime after 3 a.m. and are considering it a homicide, though some believe he may have been robbed before being murdered.

- Man Hijacks Arkansas School Bus October 17, 2013 Nicholas John Miller, a white male who works at a warehouse used a knife and threats to hijack a school bus, and took over driving. He kept driving through red lights and striking guard rails when pursued by a police car with flashing lights, but drove off the highway where he surrendered before reaching tire spikes laid to stop the bus. Miller's cover story was that he was running from people after him, and was only trying to save his own life, not hurt anybody in the bus. Miller was charged with vehicle piracy, 12 counts of kidnapping, two counts of aggravated assault, one count of fleeing, one count of DWI-Drugs, one count of refusal, and one count of reckless driving. Just the week before, Miller was arrested for terroristic threats in a domestic dispute when he was he was high on methamphetamine. The month before, Miller was arrested for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia on a traffic stop for improper license plate tags. In May, Miller was arrested breaking in to a car and stealing cash and guns.

- Five shot when two fire into Oklahoma Hmong crowd Saturday October 12, 2013 8 p.m. A man walked into a Hmong American Association festival near Tulsa Oklahoma and started shooting into a crowd of 300 to 400 people with a pistol, wounding five. Two Asian men Boonmlee Lee, 21, and Meng Lee, 19 were arrested when a police helicopter spotted a vehicle leaving the area with its lights out. The face five counts of shooting with intent to kill along with weapons possession charges. Detectives suspect Boonmlee was the triggerman. There did not appear t o be a motive but detectives believe the suspects had some sort of connection to people at the celebration. A .40 caliber semiautomatic handgun was recovered. It was the latest of a number of violent school attacks over the past few years. He was arrested and admitted to the attacks, and faces charges of attempted murder. Before that, only one other school shooting had taken place in the country's history, in Rauma in 1989, leaving two people dead.

- October 3, 2013 Miriam Carey. an unarmed woman in a black Infiniti coupe with CT plates was shot after she tried to breech barriers at the White house, then led police on a chase towards the Capitol campus. She rammed a squad care one block from the Capitol, then continued where she shot one block past the campus with a child in the back seat. Authorities have ruled out terrorism and believe it is an isolated incident, and definitely not a dry run for a real armed attack. Carey, 34, was an African American dental hygienist from Stamford, Conn. Lew Rockwell, a protest by women in Iran and numerous internet anti-government trolls called it an unjustified murder or execution of a woman who was merely confused about driving in DC who no danger to anyone. In November, a SUV drove by barriers to mow down police and tourists in Tinanmen Square in Beijing in an unrelated terrorist attack, while weeks before a gunman attacked the Navy yard and a protester set himself on fire the next day on the mall.
- Child Stowaway Flies To Las Vegas October 3, 2013 A 9 year boy gains national attention when he defeats TSA airport security and gets into a seat on a Las Vegas bound airplane. Crew figure out the unaccompanied minor does not have a ticket. Police take him into custody when he lands as a runaway, and they put a tracking band on him. He became violent and was hospitalized. He had previously blended in with families to get into a water park, and had been arrested driving a stolen car. He has a history of incidents and lying to Child Protective Services and was seen the the previous day on a reconnaissance trip stealing luggage bag and ordering at a restaurant without paying. His mother works at the Minneapolis St Paul airport and is being investigated as to whether she helped him, and there are questions as to whether a person he claimed to be meeting in Las Vegas recruited him online and assisted in planning the mission.
