John Constantino Sets Himself On Fire on National Mall

John constantino Sets Himself On Fire on National Mall ---

October 4, 2013  Man Sets Himself On Fire on National Mall The day after Miriam Carey gets shot after driving like she and her child are filming a terrorist movie, an African American man later identified as John Constantino, 64, of Mount Laurel sets himself afire. The African American man set himself on fire at the National Mall at 4:30 in the afternoon after dousing himself with gasoline and burst aflame squatting without a shirt. Joggers passing by took off their shirts but could not stop the flames. He was airlifted to a hospital while conscious in critical condition. He died the next day in a hospital. One witness says an accomplice filmed the entire ordeal, but that video never surfaced. According to his family, John was “a loving father and husband.” but his death was “not a political act or statement, but the result of his long battle with mental illness.” Time's Joe Klein blamed it on the "radical nihilist minority of the GOP's craven leadership.. radicals", calling Republicans a "pestilence feeding on ignorance and cynicism". Police are investigating a motive.

Similar case with no apparent but obvious possible political motive:

His neighbor Joe Horner disagreed with the family statement, saying he Constantino showed no signs of being insane. He “didn’t like the government for some reason,” to the New York Daily News. “He said they were a waste of time, effort and money” and ‘They’re no good. They don’t look out for us and they don’t care about anything but their own pockets.’”

“People who are sad and depressed don’t do that,” he said. “I’m baffled.”

John Constantino, 64, of Mount Laurel, N.J., suffered "significant" burns over his entire body and died at a hospital, D.C. police said. Constantino doused himself with gasoline from a red canister and set himself on fire Friday afternoon near the National Air and Space Museum, further rattling a city that was already on edge a day after a Connecticut woman was shot dead after she tried to ram her car through a White House barrier.

That said, studies show that mentally ill OLDER people who are treated with psychotropic drugs, aka SSRIs, tend to have thoughts of suicide (and in many cases act on them), while, as we all know, the mentally-disturbed and younger, developing minds treated with psychotropics sometimes veer off into a homicidal, never-never land. From the actual cases of mentally ill older people who have committed suicide, it is usually close to where they live, if not their home, and involves a gun or overdose or carbon monoxide poisoning or something like that. Never read about a case of self-immolation, which is the most ghastly way to commit suicide that I can think of.

The sad part is none of us will probably ever know the truth, given the “lawyering up” by the family and bogus claims of privacy for a DEAD MAN. In closing, I share your skepticism.

Regina Horner, a neighbor, told Reuters Constantino was a pleasant man.

“He was very friendly and showed no signs of depression,” Horner said.

“He did not want to talk about politics because the government did not care about us,” she added.

Hmmm.

Neighbor says man who set himself on fire at National Mall had railed against America

The family of John Constantino, however, released a statement saying the man’s act on Friday was the result of mental illness and ‘was not a political act or statement.’

By Rich Schapiro AND Corky Siemaszko / NEW YORK DAILY NEWS

Tuesday, October 8, 2013, 11:22 AM.
The New Jersey man who died after setting himself ablaze on the National Mall in Washington had railed against the government and told a neighbor “America is falling apart.”

John Constantino “didn’t like the government for some reason,” neighbor Joe Horner told The Daily News.

“He said they were a waste of time, effort and money,” Horner, 56, said. “He said to me, ‘They’re no good. They don’t look out for us and they don’t care about anything but their own pockets.’”

Horner spoke out after Constantino’s family lawyer issued a statement saying his dramatic death Friday “was not a political act or statement, but the result of his long battle with mental illness.”

Horner said he saw his 64-year-old friend on Thursday and he showed no signs of being insane.

“He was his happy self,” said Horner, who lives on a few doors down from modest, two-story, book-filled townhouse in Mt. Laurel, N.J., that Constantino shared with his wife.

“There was no evidence, no sign of anything that would make you think he’d even be considering a think like that,” he said.

“People who are sad and depressed don’t do that,” he said. “I’m baffled.”

Constantino, a father of three grown children who once lived in Queens, was friendly, outgoing, and a member of the neighborhood association, neighbors said.

“If you needed a helping hand, that guy would help you,” Horner said. “It breaks my heart that he did that. I would have done anything to help but I didn’t know.”

Constantino’s incident took place on the National Mall in between the National Gallery of Art and the Air and Space Museum.

A second neighbor who only identified himself as John echoed Horner, calling the dead man “a good friend, a good neighbor.”

“John will be missed,” the distraught neighbor said, his voice halting.

Constantino’s kin declined to discuss their family tragedy.

“I am not aware of any anti-government statements made by him or any ill will he may have had against the government,” Constantino family lawyer, Jeffrey Cox, said.

Constantino’s dramatic self-immolation came as Washington was on edge day after a troubled Connecticut woman was killed by cops near the Capitol after a high-speed car chase — and as the nation remains in the grip of a partial government shutdown.

‘(Constantino’s) death was not a political act or statement,’ a lawyer for his family said Tuesday.

Constantino, who was described as a “loving father and husband,” doused himself with gasoline and lit himself on fire between the Air and Space Museum and the National Gallery — and in front of hundreds of shocked onlookers.

Passing joggers stripped off their shirts and doused the flames.

Despite his severe burns, Constantino was still conscious and reportedly said thank you before he was airlifted to the local hospital where he died. But he was so badly burned cops needed DNA and dental records to identify him.

This is a “personal family matter and not an issue of public concern,” Cox said in a statement.

Constantino’s family “would like to acknowledge the heroism of the paramedics and bystanders who attempted to save his life,” the statement said.

John Constantino: The Uniburner Manifesto

Precious few details have emerged in the case of John Constantino, who set himself on fire on the Washington Mall Friday, the fourth of this month. So, I am going to make some details up. Yes - this is in poor taste. Yes - this is only because I am following up on the story to try and find out if he really was pre-blackened before the fire. So, per my lies - here is his photo, a picture of his favorite movie, and an excerpt from his manifesto.

If the truth was to be out to the black man, he would have to understand the lie he has been perpetrated. Pres. Obama is Osama bin Laden, they are the same person but one shaved off his beard and they threw the beard off an aircraft carrier to make people think Osama was got by the CIA. Michelle Obama is Oprah Winfrey and she put on a fat suit to be Oprah and take it off to be Michelle. Their children are made from black Styrofoam and midgets that make them go. Every year or two, they add more black Styrofoam to make them grow, and hire a slightly bigger midget.

Time Magazine:  A woman crashes her car into the White House barricades and then careers off toward the Capitol, where she is shot and killed--in an unnecessary fusillade--by Capitol police, who are working without pay because of the government shutdown. The next day, a man incinerates himself on the Mall. Is it just me, or is there a whiff of the apocalypse in the air? MT. LAUREL, N.J. (CBS) — The man who committed suicide on the National Mall in Washington, DC last week by setting himself on fire (see related story) has been identified as a South Jersey resident who, according to his family, was not making a political statement by his final act. John Constantino, 64, of Mount Laurel, died in a Washington, DC hospital a day after the incident.  His family, through a Washington-based attorney, has issued a statement calling John “a loving father and husband.” The family insists his death was “not a political act or statement, but the result of his long battle with mental illness.”

  • Mount Laurel is a township in southern New Jersey, about 15 miles east of Philadelphia. People who lived near him said he resided on a middle class street of townhouses.
  •  provoked widespread public attention because of the setting and because of the events that unfolded in Washington last week. Those included the shutdown of the government and the fatal shooting on Capitol Hill of a woman who had crashed her car into a police barricade at the White House and led officers on a chase to the Capitol..
  •  property tax records indicated Constantino was a disabled veteran. (who drove down from New Jersey and set himself on fire? How disabled is that?)
  • The recent violence — along with a government shutdown gripping the city — led to speculation about Constantino’s motive.
  • Was he mentally ill? Were the monks mentally ill in Vietnam that did this? (Huffpo comment)
  • He came from Mt. Laurel NJ. Why was someone there with a tripod? Very strange. Maybe someone told him he was doing a film and the gas was water

Friday afternoon rush hour in downtown Houston took on added drama when a man in a business suit doused himself with gasoline and tried to set himself on fire in front of the Exxon Mobil Houston Police officers and Exxon Security restrained him before he could use a lighter. Authorities stripped him of his clothes and firefighters washed him and the sidewalk down with fire hoses. “He was just sitting there, very quiet, very peaceful almost like he was meditating,” Garcia said. “I think the fact that he had a pillow with him suggest perhaps he was taking inspiration from Buddhist monks who've protested that way before.

A Self-immolation at the National Mall – People are Setting Themselves on Fire in Front of the Capitol

    by Scott Creighton (H/T Tom)
    WTF is happening.
At approximately 4:24 this afternoon, a man soaked his clothes in gasoline on the National Mall just outside the Capitol Building and set himself on fire.
Bystanders helped put out the flames with their shirts and the man is reportedly still alive but with life threatening burns to a large portion of his body.
A helicopter flew in and took him to the hospital.

UPDATE: Photo at the end of the article shows man burning quite severely and the jogger running up to his aid.
    ——-
The man who committed self-immolation at the National Mall directly in front of the Capitol building has died of his injuries but his name has not yet been released by authorities.
“The Associated Press reported that Officer Araz Alali said the man, who has not yet been identified, died on Friday night after he was transported to a hospital. His burns were so severe that authorities will have to use DNA and dental records to make a positive identification.” IBTimes
A civil rights attorney for the “Justice” Department claims she saw someone set up a tripod with a camera and focus it on the guy standing there waiting to set himself ablaze. She claims that there is a video of the event out there somewhere.
A witness claims that the man gave the Capitol “a crisp, military salute” before setting himself on fire. That witness took a photo of people as they tried to put out the fire.
The timing of this dramatic event is hard to miss. Obviously it took place a day after a woman was gunned down just a few blocks from where he lit himself ablaze. But also, congress is pretending to debate the next wave of austerity measures sure to be inflicted on us in the next Grand Compromise from the Obama administration. Congressional approval ratings are the lowest ever.
Was this guy in the military? Did they stage this event to distract from Miriam Carey? Were the “joggers” who put out the fire almost immediately there by chance? They look to be of military age don’t they?
The inherent problem with the distraction theory is that the MSM has almost completely ignored this story. Maybe the dramatic video will come out at a crucial moment later… don’t know.
And what about the guy filming it? How did he get out of the scene so fast with a camera and a tripod? When will that video surface and what will it say? Is someone trying to manufacture another Tunisia moment here?
    ——-
UPDATE: Another photo of the scene shows the guy burning before the jogger gets to him.  So I guess his rescuer wasn’t as close as I originally thought.

Why are people suddenly doing weird crap in DC?
      Wait, it’s Washington….
    2. “The inherent problem with the distraction theory is that the MSM has almost completely ignored this story.”
Indeed. And if people are at this point, the media would downplay them for all they’re worth.
    3. Interestingly, the last photo that is posted with the guy on fire is wide enough to show if indeed a tripod was setup to record the immolation. I don’t see it. They really should install some CCTV cameras on that mall. If they did, they might be able to track his movements.
And the person who happened to be walking across the mall and take the photo is a furloughed civil rights lawyer for the Justice Department. It was a busy week for Katy Scheflen. She was also interviewed by the WAPO concerning the “shutdown”.
3rd of 30 is credited to Katy Scheflin
I’m sure it was a coincidence.
      Aris
    4. And he’s Black. And Miriam Carey was Black, a fact that was so obviously purged from all the mainstream reports that it could only have been ordered by “above.” I’m thinking who is that child’s father, and he is the one that ordered the killing of his child’s mother. And he can’t claim parental rights now can he. So he has condemned his own child, but not letting the family take her but a public agency, to a rather bad future. Perhaps they will change her name, put her in a “witness protection” program so she will never know her true identity.
    5. My first thought was “distraction” as well, but they’re giving it a surprisingly low degree of coverage. Perhaps the delay in identification of the man is a means of stalling until they can concoct a sensational story around the event.
A man attempted to immolate himself in the same way in Houston a week ago in front of the Exxon building, despite the fact that he had no connection to the company. That case also involved a tripod. By sheer coincidence, one of the security guards on scene was an off-duty police officer and was able to stop him.

That strange prelude certainly wasn’t mentioned in any of the press reports about this recent immolation. Perhaps some P.R. hack looking for a distraction from Miriam Carey saw it and a light bulb went over their head.
