Pilot was in full control. 10:45 a.m.,the plane had reached its cruising altitude of 38,000 feet. It then unexpectedly began an eight-minute descent, according to Germanwings. Air traffic controllers sent out a distress call after radio contact with the plane was lost. The plane's crew, however, didn't issue a distress call, according to the French Civil Aviation Authority.
