On average 8-12 crashes or near crashes a day 1 or two people a day die in head-on collisions in US on divided freeways, and even more counting 2 lane roads or crossing the median. wrong-way driver problem in northeast Wisconsin averages more than one wrong way driver each week.

Only 3 percent of all crashes are wrong way driver. 2005, head-on crashes were only 2.0% of all crashes, yet accounted for 10.1% of U.S. fatal crashes. In Minnesota alone, an average state of 5.5M there were 466 in 2011 rising to 536 (2 per day) in 2015 including 123 fatal crashes with 155 deaths. (about 1 death every 2 days, if scaled nationally, that would be 12 every day). On some days more than 11 people die in a single day on both coasts.

Why do a very high percentage of mysterious "accidents" that look like terrorist attacks involve people crossing the center line or driving the wrong way on a freeway into an innocent or police target, usually in conjunction with DUI, drugs, distraction and / or suspended licence?

These are almost never determined to be deliberate attacks. Most reports of head-on crashes look like thinly disguised attacks with bad cover stories, and even these deliberate attacks, sometimes on police are blamed on mental illness, not a terrorist motive.

Some have been admitted to be deliberate "suicide" but rarely or never intentional murder or suicide attack. The most famous mysterious case suspected to be a deliberate assassination was General Patton where a soldier pretending to be a joyrider lay in wait to drive into Patton's car, he died of his injuries.

Two car crashes that killed a total of 11 people on Sunday occurred more than 2,000 miles apart, but bore one terrifying similarity — they were caused by drivers barreling the wrong way down highways.While wrong-way crashes occur relatively infrequently, accounting for only 3 percent of accidents on divided highways, the fatality rate for wrong-way collisions is roughly 27 times more than other types of accidents, according to a 2012 report by the National Transportation Safety Board.

On average, 360 people died annually (about one per day) in roughly 260 fatal wrong-way collisions, a phenomenon first studied by the federal agency in 1968 during its investigation of a multiple fatality wreck near Baker, Calif.

Driver impairment by alcohol was identified by investigators as a factor in 60 percent of fatal wrong-way collisions, according to the NTSB report. Furthermore, more than half of those wrong-way drivers had blood-alcohol concentration at or above 0.15, more than double the rate of impairment in most states.

Other key findings within the NTSB study included that drivers over the age of 70 constitute about 15 percent of at-fault drivers in wrong-way wrecks and that the primary origin of wrong-way movements is entering an exit ramp.

“Other mechanisms resulting in wrong-way movement include making a U-turn on the mainline or using the emergency turnaround through the median,” the report found.

Seventy-eight percent of wrong-way collisions occur between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m., and a disproportionate number of them occur on the weekends. Most wrong-way collisions take place in the lane closest to the median, according to the report. Some are by illegal passing.

Thompson leads one of two trucks which have been waiting by the side of the road until the approach of General Patton's Caddilac. Thompson says he was drinking the previous night, and he and two buddies had commandeered (or possibly stolen) a duece and a half truck for joyriding. They were sixty miles from their ordered posting. He was slightly drunk when he claimed he was pulling into a depot to return the truck, and later changed his story to a side road, but neither was close to where he failed to signal, hit the gas, and acoording to Patton's driver, steered directly into the nose of Patton's car with no other possible reason other than to deliberately hit a target. Patton's driver could not avoid a collision. Patton hit the front seat, hurt his neck, and was paralyzed. He died later in the hospital on December 21, 1945. When Woodring, Patton's driver yells "Do you know who you hit? This is General Patton", Thompson grins drunkenly and tells his companions "General Patton, do you believe it?"

He killed himself and the driver of a car he hit head-on in August 2012 by driving on the wrong side of the road after a fight with his girlfriend. The son was driving a black Hyundai Elantra west in the eastbound lanes of S.R. 408 at about 3:55 a.m, exploded in flames incinerating the driver beyond recognition, killing the other driver and forcing another Jeep into the guardrail.

Although there were suggestions of terrorist activity after the recent September 11 attacks had happened, the media concluded that Damir Igric was just an innocent Croatian restaurant worker with a history of mental illness with no apparent connection to any terrorist motive. Others who believe he was a muslim terrorist note the suspect was a Croatian Muslim Army veteran who at 19, volunteered to fight in Croatia's 1991 war for independence from Yugoslavia,and that Al Qaeda and Iran supported Muslim fighters in both Bosnia and Kosovo. He had a history of drug and weapons arrests in his native country.

All westbound traffic into Seattle was blocked. The first car hit by the Jeep was rear ended and erupted into flames, and some cars flipped over. One witness who stopped to help the crash victims also had a fire extinguisher in his car, and helped douse the flames. Monday October 21, 2013 Drunk driver flees police, wrong-way head on crashes into truck 55-year-old Edmonds man tried to avoid arrest for drunken driving and wound up dead, injured an 86-year-old driver and two Snohomish County sheriff's deputies. The suspect crossed the center lane and hit the white truck head on, and then spun around and hit a guardrail. One squad car hit the suspect, then the other squad car slammed into both vehicles. The suspect driver died at the scene.

Abraham Aragon Kamikaze Wrong Way Driver September 29, 2013 Abraham Aragon, 44, of Manassas, Va., was driving the wrong way on the Fairfax County Parkway around 1:40 a.m in his 1993 Mazda Some vehicles were able to avoid the oncoming car by veering away, but the Mazda still managed to directly hit a 2002 Toyota Avalon. Aragon was pronounced dead on the scene of the crash. A baby delivered prematurely after the crash later died.

Then Tracy Ludwig, 49, of Fisher, Minn for "no known reason" crossed over the dividing line and evidently without taking careful aim, crashed head on into the only vehicle she could have hit for miles. Jensen quickly gained his senses after his air bag went off, and dragged the injured woman out of her now burning car just moments before it exploded. The woman faces a recovery and a drunken-driving allegation, but evidently won't be charged with vehicular assault

August 17, 2013 Pickup Crosses Over Median To Hit Vegas-Bound Bus An Eagle tours bus with 30 tourists from China was struck in the side by an oncoming pickup truck which crossed over the median and overturned. The pickup driver was killed. The bus drove into the desert. Bus driver Jimmy Ming Giang, suffered major injuries and airlifted to Las Vegas, four bus passengers and the tour bus guide received minor injuries.

Pastor Manard Giles Jr Killed By Wrong Way Murderer Jun 23, 2013 - A 77-year-old pastor Manard Giles Jr., the pastor at The Answer Community Church from Quartz Hill died when a suspected drunken driver headed in the wrong direction on the 17 Antelope Valley Freeway The crash also severely injured Giles' two passengers, both church members, family members said. Giles and his passengers were returning home from a church retreat in San Diego when the crash occurred. The crash occurred before dawn when Bradford E. Pate, 38, llegedly steered his 2006 Toyota truck south onto the northbound lanes and collided with Giles' 2006 Chrysler 300 on the 14 Freeway near Escondido Canyon Road. this was the second wrong-way crash on the same stretch of freeway this past week. On Monday, June 17, a driver who was under the influence of methamphetamines crashed into eight vehicles and injured 13 people about 4:36 p.m. Three of those injured were listed in critical condition at a nearby hospital.

Jennifer Englade, the woman who investigators said was legally drunk at the wheel when her car collided with another car in St. Charles Parish, LA. She killed three people, including a pregnant woman. Englade was drunk and also on drugs when the car she was driving crossed the median and slammed into the path of an oncoming 2001 Honda Civic. She had cocaine and amphetamines in her system, and her blood alcohol level was .15, which is almost twice the legal limit. It her fifth alcohol-related charge since the mid-1990s. She has been convicted on charges of impaired driving three times. The most recent DWI conviction came in 2012 when she pleaded guilty, but never had jail time. May 19, 2013 In northeastern Pennsylvania township of Coolbaugh on 1:15 a.m. taxi Driver Michael West allegedly lost control of his taxi, and collided head-on with a fire police van. West was killed and four emergency responders were hurt. 1 dies in hospital, no arrest December 9, 1945 General George S. Patton's Head-On Car Accident or Assassination Tech Sgt Robert L. Thompson leads one of two trucks which have been waiting by the side of the road until the approach of General Patton's Caddilac. Thompson says he was drinking the previous night, and he and two buddies had commandeered (or possibly stolen) a duece and a half truck for joyriding. They were sixty miles from their ordered posting. He was slightly drunk when he claimed he was pulling into a depot to return the truck, and later changed his story to a side road, but neither was close to where he failed to signal, hit the gas, and acoording to Patton's driver, steered directly into the nose of Patton's car with no other possible reason other than to deliberately hit a target. Patton's driver could not avoid a collision. Patton hit the front seat, hurt his neck, and was paralyzed. He died later in the hospital on December 21, 1945. When Woodring, Patton's driver yells "Do you know who you hit? This is General Patton", Thompson grins drunkenly and tells his companions "General Patton, do you believe it?"
