February 9, 2014: Two California and Florida Wrong Way Crashes Kill 11 Five people were killed at about 2 a.m. on Interstate 275 in Tampa in a collision when a Ford Expedition SUV speeding on the wrong side of the freeway hit a Hyundai Sonata filled with 4 University of South Florida students. All were killed. One driver driving the correct direction filmed the crash which is circulating on the internet. The same day, there was another wrong-way driver in Diamond Bar, California. when Olivia Culbreath, age 21 killed six people whe she drove her 2013 Chevy Camaro the wrong way while speeding at 100 mph and DUI. She hit a Ford Explorer head-on before dawn and was arrested, and faces 6 counts of murder. In February 2015, Culbreath pleaded not guilty to six counts of murder

Three months before her DUI conviction, Culbreath’s license was suspended because she had an excessive blood alcohol level. Under California vehicle code section 13353.2, that means any driver under 21 with a blood-alcohol concentration of .01 percent or greater.

Because she had accumulated so many points on her license, Culbreath’s driving privileges were suspended on Aug. 4, 2010. That probation ended on Aug. 4, 2011, but because Culbreath failed to file proof of insurance in time, her license was ultimately reinstated on Dec. 20, 2011.
The most recent incident on her record is from November 2013, when Culbreath was ticketed for allegedly talking on a cellphone while driving. According to DMV records, that ticket is outstanding for failure to appear.

The 21-year-old’s license status is now valid and she has proof of insurance, records show. Aside from last week’s deadly crash, there are no other collisions listed in Culbreath’s driving record.

    In World War II, kamikaze pilots would volunteer to fly their airplanes into ships and boats as a military target. A car driving in the wrong lane is not an accident, but authorities would have no clue who or why somebody might be recruited for such a crash. Who would go to this much trouble to kill a car full of college students?
