A Ferris State University student was shot in his apartment off ...The student was shot at 4:15 a.m. in the Venlo Place Apartments Saturday morning. Sandy Gholston, a spokesperson for the college, said that police arrested the shooter at Finch Court apartments on Saturday afternoon and that police questioned a woman. The shooter was later identified as 20-year-old DeCory D. Downing. Downing is not a student and is from Macomb County, which is a suburb of Detroit. The shooter has a lengthy criminal record.

Bruce Borkovich, the Public Safety Director for Ferris State University, said that Downing has been charged with having a firearm in a felony and attempted murder. The shooter is being held in Mecosta County Jail and should be arraigned in district court on Monday. Borkovich also said that investigators do not know the motive of the shooting but do know that there was a party going on at the time of the shooting. They do not know if the two men knew each other or if they simply attended the party. He also said that early indications show that the shooting might have resulted from an argument that went bad.
