Pickup Crosses Over Median To Hit Vegas-Bound Bus

Pickup Crosses Over Median To Hit Vegas-Bound Bus
Asian victims Bus Incident

August 17, 2013 An Eagle tours bus with 30 tourists from China was struck in the side by an oncoming pickup truck which crossed over the median and overturned. The pickup driver was killed. The bus drove into the desert. Bus driver Jimmy Ming Giang, suffered major injuries and airlifted to Las Vegas, four bus passengers and the tour bus guide received minor injuries.

Seems like awfully unfortunate timing for the truck to cross the road just in time for it to strike the driver corner or side of an oncoming bus, like the car that crossed over to ram an oncoming police motorcycle in Everett WA..

The deaths of 19 passengers was partly blamed on a lack of seat belts.
Seat belts on commercial buses still stymied 45 years after first safety recommendation

WASHINGTON — After a drunken driver on a California highway slammed into a bus carrying passengers to Las Vegas, killing 19, investigators said a lack of seat belts contributed to the high death toll. But 45 years later, safety advocates are still waiting for the government to act on seat belts and other measures to protect bus passengers.

“For unknown reasons, the driver lost control of the truck and went into the center divider, then overturned,” he said.
As the truck overturned, it crossed onto the northbound side of the freeway.
The truck and the bus then crashed with the truck hitting the oncoming bus “in a head-on direction,” Spiker said.

The bus then went off the shoulder and into the desert where it came to a rest on its wheels.
