Tuesday April 7, 2009 John Chong Shooting Spree At Korean Catholic Camp Location: Temecula California in Riverside County. 69 year old John Chong shot two persons in one RV camper, killing a woman, and fought with 2 in a 2nd RV who injured him. Chong was a friendly if distant volunteer handyman and welder at the Kkottongnae Retreat Camp which had just been purchased by the Congregation of the Sisters of Jesus, a Korean Roman Catholic Organization. Organization. Kkottongnae, which means "flower village" in Korean, is a Christian social service organization founded in Korea that works with orphans and the homeless. Police did not find any clear motive.
Unlikely alternative scenario: covert North Korean intelligence agency sponsored anti-Christian attack and assassination of Koreans and Catholic Christians.

Once there he shot Chuneui in the head, killing her instantly. His next bullet hit Jong Pil in the chest, leaving him gravely wounded. A pool of blood remained in the house Wednesday. Orange slices and a bowl of rice sat on the counter, uneaten.

Chong denied that during the hearing and said he feels deep guilt for the murder. “It really breaks my heart to face the fact that I killed another person, and I pray and trust God will know that fact,” he said through a Korean interpreter.
The defense ask the judge to go easy on Chong for the sake of his age, his frail shape and his mental instability. “He’s 71 years old, he’s in bad mental and physical health,” said Renee Rupp, the killer’s attorney. He attempted suicide twice in his life, she added.

A woman died at the scene, and a man was critically injured.Initial reports showed that Chong had targeted his wife, but that information has yet to be confirmed."We feel pretty confident right now we do not have an outstanding suspect," said Dennis Gutierrez from the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.After the first shooting, Chong allegedly went to another RV unit, where he got into a fight with a two people, but they were able to attack and injure him.The man shot in the first RV and the two people in the second attack were taken to a local hospital.
