2 injured, suspect sentenced 15 years September 17, 2013 Jeep Hits Roseville MN Army Recruiters, Drags One For Miles 52-year-old Enrico Darius Taylor of St. Paul ran over 2 Army recruiters in the Rosedale mall parking lot in his Jeep Cherokee just as they were reaching their front door was they were returning from lunch. Staff Sgt. Michael Stroud went over the hood, but Sgt. First Class Travis Torgerson's leg got caught in the undercarriage. Despite calls for help, Taylor continued to drive, dragging Torgenson for nearly one mile and suffering a broken leg before the SUV stopped. He pled guilty in November to assault and criminal vehicular operation, and in January 2014 was sentenced to more than 15 years in prison.
Details: The incident bears some similarity to the 1989 Little Rock, Arkansas recruiting station shooting in which the suspect claimed to be sent on a terrorist mission from Al Qaeda on his return from a trip to Yemen, and the 2014 hit and run attack which killed a Canadian soldier which has been called in Islamist-inspired terrorist attack, which in turn has been compared to the London Woolwich run-over and stabbing of a British soldier, and many attacks in Israel by motorists driving into civilians and security forces. but no media has made any link between the incidents.
Police are trying to determine a motive. Torgenson abandoned the vehicle near a motel which called police when he asked for a cab. When captured, the suspect claimed he did not see the victims crossing the road, but admitted he had hit the pedestrians, and claimed he stopped to help pull the man out from under his Jeep. Taylor has had eight contacts/arrests with the Roseville Police Department in three years, usually because he has been scamming people for money to fix his car. He pled guilty in November to assault and criminal vehicular operation, and in January 2014 was sentenced to more than 15 years in prison.
