March 25, 2013 In Lyon, France a 28 yr old muslim Iranian man attacked the magnificent astronomical clock at St John’s cathedral dating from the 14th century with an iron bar, breaking two hands and part of the mechanism His stated motive was that the beauty of the clock distracted believers from prayer. Authorities classified it as a case of mental illness, and committed him to a mental hospital. Right-wing National Front mayor candidate Christophe Boudot was astonished that officials did not call it a desecration or expression of hatred towards the Lyon Catholic people at the beginning of Holy Week. “I ask loudly our authorities not to take Lyonnais for fools and immediately expel the Iranian citizen to his country! " He escaped from the hospital on April 16, 2013. See April 23 for his stabbing attack of a Rabbi.
April 16, 2013 In Paris France the same Iranian man arrested for March 25 attack on a cathedral and had escaped from a psychiatric hospital stabbed a Jewish rabbi and his son going to the Beth-El Synagogue in Paris, but their lives were not in danger. The man was restrained by witnesses until the police arrived. Authorities were not able to establish any possible motive for the attack.
