A K-9 officer was shot and killed in Sellersburg, Indiana at the start of a nine-hour police standoff with a man who fled from and shot at officers trying to serve him with a warrant on Monday, police said. Sellersburg police officers approached a man with a warrant and he ran away and then fired several shots, said Sellersburg Police Trooper Brock McCooe. The shots killed a police dog and a deputy, and he also shot out the camera of a robot sent into the house. the man who held off SWAT officers for 10 hours in Sellersburg Monday, killing a police dog and wounding an officer, is a former Louisville firefighter due to lose his house next month in a sheriff's sale. Joshua L. Priddy, 31, was being held in the Clark County Jail Tuesday on six felony charges. A Clark County Deputy, now identified as Chris Proctor, and an Indiana State Police K9 were shot during a stand off with a man in a Sellersburg, Ind. neighborhood.
said when they arrived at the scene the suspect was in his yard with his children and armed with two hand guns. Sellersburg Police Chief Russ Whelan said the suspect pointed a gun at him then took off running.
"You know was saying stuff about...anti-government and he knew what we was wanting from him. Which is when he initially pointed the gun at me and he had his children with him," Whelan said. "Shortly after that is when he let the kids go."
A K9 dog was sent in to the home, police said, and was shot,killed by the suspect.
The suspect has also shot out the eyes, or the camera, of a robot the SWAT team sent in, police said.
