- A 2001 Interview of Leonard Lado MD regarding Robert PIcket a resident of Evansville Indiana who was on a polypharmacy regimen of 25 psychiatric medications. Robert Picket opened fire outside the White House yesterday before being shot in the knee and subdued by a Secret Service officer while President George W Bush was inside.
Robert Pickett, 47, an accountant, was said by witnesses to have been threatening to commit suicide before he was shot. "Put the gun down," officers shouted during a 10-minute stand-off. "It doesn't have to be this way. Let's talk about it."
Mr Pickett was said to have pointed his gun at the White House and then put the weapon in his mouth. One theory was that he had been hoping to provoke the Secret Service into killing him. The incident triggered a huge security operation as armed officers fanned out around the White House and helicopters flew overhead. It was not clear whether the two or three shots Mr Pickett fired were aimed in the direction of the building.
