March 10 2009: In two cities Geneva and Samson in rural Alabama 11 people, including the gunman - 28-year-old Michael Kenneth McLendon were killed, including McLendon's family. Soon after he quit his job at a sausage factory, he killed his mother, and set fire to their home in Kinston, then wen on a 24 mile shooting spree. At a relative's home in Samson  he shot several members of his family as well as a neighbor and her daughter. He killed a pedestrian, and killed a customer at a gas station, then killed another man and fired at cars. He died in a shoot-out in a Geneva factory where he had previously worked. he victims were aged between 18 months toddler and 74 years old elderly

March 11, 2009 One day later a school shooting causing 15 deaths took place in Winnenden, Germany. No link was found between the incidents

March 10 2009: In two cities Geneva and Samson in rural Alabama 11 people, including the gunman - 28-year-old Michael Kenneth McLendon were killed, including McLendon's family. He killed his mother, and set fire to their home, then wen on a 24 mile shooting spree. The attacks began at McLendon's residence in Kinston, Alabama, where he killed his mother and set the house on fire.
He went to a relative's home in Samson where he shot several members of his family as well as a neighbor and her daughter. McLendon left the family member's home, killed a pedestrian alongside the road, then stopped at a local gas station, killing a customer inside.
McLendon left the gas station heading along Alabama Highway 52 towards Geneva, Alabama. He killed another man who was attempting to subdue him. The suspect is also said to have fired at cars on the highway. Law enforcement officers at one point used the PIT maneuver on the suspect's car which failed to stop him. He died in a shoot-out in a Geneva metal products plant in which he is said to have previously worked. During the shoot-out, Geneva police chief Frankie Lindsey was shot in the arm. On March 10, 2009, Michael McLendon set fire to the rural south Alabama home he shared with his mother with her body inside. He then set off on a 24-mile shooting .
