1 killed by police, 1 officer injured August 9, 2014 Shooting of unarmed Michael Brown in Ferguson, MO In the St. Louis suburb of Ferguson, Missouri at around 2:00 p.m. Michael Brown, 18, and Dorian Johnson, 22, both African American men, were walking on the street to Brown's grandmother's house. A Ferguson police officer drove up to the two men and ordered them off of the street and onto the sidewalk. As the officer got out of his squad car, there was a physical confrontation when Brown pushed him back into the car and assaulted the officer and tried to seize the officer's gun. After a gunshot was fired either in or from within the vehicle, Brown and Johnson fled and Brown was fatally shot at some distance away. The incident sparked protests and acts of vandalism in the St. Louis suburb, as well as national calls for an investigation. On August 15, police announced that Brown and Dorian Johnson had been identified as suspects stealing cigars and pushing a clerk at a nearby convenience store earlier that day, police said Friday.
On early August 13 after midnight, when four men in ski masks armed with shotguns approached a crowd, shots were fired, and a man who pulled a gun on an officer was shot. Nearby another woman was injured when she was shot in the head in a drive-by. An FBI alert warns that a new Black Panther Party member is advocating violence against law enforcement in response to the shooting of Brown.
Brown was 2014 high school graduate set to begin classes at Vatterott College. Lesley McSpadden, mother of Brown said the officer should be fired, jailed and get “the death penalty.” as she doesn’t understand why police didn’t subdue her son with a club or Taser. Grandmother Desiree Harris stated “My grandson never even got into a fight, He was just looking forward to getting on with his life.”

Saturday Aug. 9 Michael Brown is shot to death Saturday afternoon. The shooting occurred around noon in Ferguson, Mo., a suburb of St. Louis, as Brown and a friend walked down a street. Sunday Aug. 10 10 a.m. – St. Louis County Police Chief Joe Belmar says the investigation shows that Michael Brown, 18, was unarmed. Belmar says Brown physically assaulted the officer, and during a struggle between the two, Brown reached for the officer's gun.
