Editorial: Brendan Tevlin "targeted" smears victim of terrorist attack

Editorial: Brendan Tevlin "targeted" smears victim of random crime ---

August 14, 2014 Editorial: Brendan Tevlin "targeted" smears victim of random crime Police say the word “targeted” was used based on the ferocity of the crime. Tevlin was shot eight times, indicating “a hit.” The side-street location, too, may have led police to believe he was purposely followed.
But Brendan Tevlin was an innocent, random victim of an accused killer wanted for a double murder in Seattle. The word “targeted” created additional heartache for the Tevlin family at a time when it was already reeling from unbearable pain. “The initial inaccurate statement that Brendan was ‘targeted’ resulted in undeserved and painful speculation that he played some role in this tragedy,” the family said in a statement to The Star-Ledger this week.

Tevlin was actually murdered in a series of terrorist attacks staged to look like common crimes motivated by same militant Islamist movement as Al Qaeda: June 25, 2014 August 4, 2014 Ali Muhammad Brown Among Three Charged in College Student Murder   Ali Muhammad Brown is wanted for the shooting of two gay men in Seattle on June 1, 2014 Ahmed Said and Dwone Anderson-Young. The murder is being investigated as a possible hate crime against gays possibly motivated by radicalized Islamic beliefs as there were no other apparent motives. Later Brown and two other suspects were charged in connection with killing college student Brendan Tevlin who was surrounded by thugs at a stoplight, then shot and driven to an apartment in West Orange, New Jersey where they took several personal items.  Brown, 30, is a registered sex offender from Seattle who was originally from East Orange New Jersey, charged with a number of offenses, including first-degree murder, felony murder, second-degree conspiracy to commit robbery and second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. Jeremy Villagran and Eric Williams face felony murder, robbery and weapons charges.  Ryan Mauro of The Clarion Project states that Q13 FOX News reported that Brown was a radical muslim terrorist  "who received jihadist training in California in April." He apparently used the Grindr social network to find and murder homosexuals with Islamic names. According to August 2014 charging documents, Brown claims to be Muslim and a jihadi. He told investigators that the shooting of the four victims in the Seattle area and New Jersey were “just kills,” or justified shootings of adult males in retaliation for actions by the U.S. government in Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan. He is in jail on $5 million bail.  From January 2002 to November 2004 Brown, along with three accomplices, successfully defrauded Bank of America, Washington Mutual, Wells Fargo and others out of large sums of money led by barber Ruben Shumpert who fled charges to Somalia where he died fighting for Al Shabab terrorists.

On the morning after Brendan Tevlin was killed in West Orange, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office issued a news release that included these words: “The victim has been identified as a Brendan Tevlin, 19, of Livingston. The preliminary investigation indicates he was targeted.”
That suggests the killer had some private beef with Tevlin and went after him. And because so much violence in America is tied to the drug trade, a reasonable person could read between the lines and conclude that Tevlin was somehow involved in that black market.
With that assumption in mind, the public could breathe easy. This was a private argument. The danger is confined to people who associate with killers.
We now know nothing could have been further from the truth.
Police say the word “targeted” was used based on the ferocity of the crime. Tevlin was shot eight times, indicating “a hit.” The side-street location, too, may have led police to believe he was purposely followed.
