- August 13, 2014 Man wanted for attempted murder shot, killed by fugitive task force in Flagler WJXT Jacksonville, Florida 24-year-old Corey Tanner (black) was shot as an arrest warrant was being served. Family members said Tanner had mental issues and was on medication, but he didn't deserve to die. Tanner's criminal history includes convictions for aggravated battery, resisting arrest with violence and cocaine possession, and manufacturing and possession of a controlled substance.

They were set free by their captors about 24 hours later and turned up at the door of a house 15 miles from where they were taken, though prosecutors say they were sexually abused. Stephen Howells, 39, and Nicole Vaisey, 25, were charged with two counts each of first-degree kidnapping in the abductions

- July 28, 2014 San Jose homicide: Arrest made, second suspect sought in daylight gang San Jose Mercury News A 19-year-old San Jose man German Alexis Arjona, is in jail and an accomplice sought in a daylight gang-fueled shooting in East San Jose. David Escalera was walking with his girlfriend when a group of about a half-dozen males confronted them. When he tried to avoid them, he was shot multiple times in the city's 21st homicide of the year. Arjona was arrested the day after the shooting. No apparent motive besides being gang-related.
- 1 killed, 1 wounded, 1 Daniel Hsiao arrested August 9, 2014 San Jose: Police name suspect accused of fatally stabbing stepfather in Almaden Valley Daniel Hsiao, 22, was arrested by San Jose Police in the Aug. 9, 2014, stabbing death of stepfather Ian Leighton and injuring of his wife at their Almaden Valley home after an argument in their home. Hsiao is believed to be the son of Leighton's wife who lived with them intermittently. The stabbing was the city's 24th homicide of the year.
- Saturday August 9, 2014 Wisconsin man accused of threatening river tubers with gun On the Pine River in Wisconsin, a man confronted inner tubers floating down the river. He shouted at them that the river was his, and pointed a shotgun at them. Deputies got rive groups of tubers off the river, while SWAT deputies found the man and took him to jail. He had a loaded rifle and shotgun and 280 rounds of ammunition at the scene.
- August 11, 2014 Man Allegedly Stabs Parents, 2 Young Sons to Death to 'Fulfill His Destiny' KTLA 45-year-old Nicolas Etienne Holzer was arrested after he calmly called police to tell them he stabbed his parents and 10 and 13 year old young sons to death inside a home in the Santa Barbara area. He also killed the family dog.
- 1 killed, 3 under fire unharmed August 11, 2014 Three arrested in Delray Beach shooting, police search for three more Palm Beach Post Late Monday, Bryan St. Fleur, 20, was shot from a home on the street and died in the hospital. Later two groups were shooting at each other from cars when three women in the third car drove between the two, but were unharmed. No apparent motive. The Times-Picayune In New Orleans, a drive-by shooting wounded four members of Romain's family. Kyle is permanently blind, Romain said, and Jamal has serious brain damage. 2 and 4 year old brothers were outside playing with family Sunday night when a barrage of bullets meant for a convicted heroin possessor changed everything. Police believe the shooter had been aiming for 33-year-old Terrence McBride, who has a previous conviction for heroin possession and pending drug and weapons charges. A neighbor 16-year-old Jasmine Anderson, also died as a result of the shooting, while a 37-year-old woman was injured. - August 12, 2014 Longtime Lakeville family man arrested in 1980s Texas killing A 53-year-old Lakeville husband and father who has lived in the Twin Cities for a quarter-century or more was arrested and jailed on suspicion of fatally stabbing a man in a Texas hotel more than 30 years ago. Police arrested Robert A. Otteson shortly after 9 a.m. Tuesday. Otteson is employed and studying at Capella University and has previously attended Dakota County Technical College. Otteson is accused of killing businessman Francisco Narvaez in 1983 in a Denton Texas hotel room.

- August 12, 2014 Son of assistant US attorney destroys Chattanooga TN classrooms Aaron Roden, 22, was arrested on Tuesday morning after police say he went on a rampage, shattering windows in 15 classrooms, breaking ceiling tiles and even crushing toilets in some of the bathrooms at Westview Elementary School, forcing school closure. Roden is charged with two counts of assault on a police officer and is the son of Michael Roden, an assistant U.S. attorney who works at the U.S. Attorney's Office in Nashville.
