1 professor killed, suspect identifed after he committed suicide Murder of U Missouri Professor Jeong Im Jan. 7, 2005 At 12:30 p.m. the University of Missouri police and firefighters found 72 year old microbiology professor Jeong Im’s 1996 Honda Accord on fire in a parking garage. Im’s body was found in the trunk after he had been seen on security video at 10:30 a.m. He had been stabbed to death, stuffed in the trunk, and the vehicle was set on fire. MU Police Chief Jack Watring announced Jan. 30, 2013, that based on DNA evidence gathered at the scene the killer was Timothy Aaron Hoag, a 35-year-old male with a history of violence.
On Aug. 9, 2012, Hoag committed suicide by jumping off a downtown parking garage. In Dec. 21, 2012 MU police received a tip from a friend that drove him to the scene thinking he just need help getting gas for a car that Hoag had committed the murder. Investigators matched a blood sample after he committed suicide which matched DNA at the crime scene.
Im was of Korean descent, suspect Hoag was white.

This photo was published in a testimonial written by the Korean community after Jeong H. Im’s death. It shows Im with his wife, Tesuk. Daughters to the marriage are Soo and Jean. On Jan. 30, Chancellor Brady J. Deaton extended his “continued solace and sympathy for the Ihm family.”
