August 9, 2014 Minneapolis 400 Soundbar Shootings In downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota, no arrests were made in a shooting at the 400 Soundbar nightclub in which 9 people were shot and 2 seriously wounded. Minnesota Vikings defensive tackle Linval Joseph was grazed by a bullet. Since 2012, two have been stabbed, two police officers have been injured breaking up fights, and one bouncer has been shot and seriously wounded. The owner announced he is closing the club
- 1 killed, 1 wounded, 1 Daniel Hsiao arrested August 9, 2014 San Jose: Police name suspect accused of fatally stabbing stepfather in Almaden Valley Daniel Hsiao, 22, was arrested by San Jose Police in the Aug. 9, 2014, stabbing death of stepfather Ian Leighton and injuring of his wife at their Almaden Valley home after an argument in their home. Hsiao is believed to be the son of Leighton's wife who lived with them intermittently. The stabbing was the city's 24th homicide of the year.
- Saturday August 9, 2014 Wisconsin man accused of threatening river tubers with gun On the Pine River in Wisconsin, a man confronted inner tubers floating down the river. He shouted at them that the river was his, and pointed a shotgun at them. Deputies got rive groups of tubers off the river, while SWAT deputies found the man and took him to jail. He had a loaded rifle and shotgun and 280 rounds of ammunition at the scene.
- 1 killed by police, 1 officer injured August 9, 2014 Shooting of unarmed Michael Brown in Ferguson, MO In the St. Louis suburb of Ferguson, Missouri at around 2:00 p.m. Michael Brown, 18, and Dorian Johnson, 22, both African American men, were walking on the street to Brown's grandmother's house. A Ferguson police officer drove up to the two men and ordered them off of the street and onto the sidewalk. As the officer got out of his squad car, there was a physical confrontation when Brown pushed him back into the car and assaulted the officer and allegedly tried to seize the officer's gun. After a gunshot was fired either in or from within the vehicle, Brown and Johnson fled and Brown was fatally shot at some distance away. The incident sparked protests and acts of vandalism in the St. Louis suburb, as well as national calls for an investigation
