Schumerth, who had been struggling with depression, was fired for incompetency that morning; he returned to the campus at 1:15 p.m. with an AK-47 assault rifle concealed in a guitar case. He entered Regan's office and shot her multiple times before turning the gun on himself.[7][8]

Completely false that Shane was released from his first teaching job.  He was hired at Episcopal so was therefore fined by the first school for not returning there

he was passionate about, based on his Facebook page. He rarely posted himself, but often reposted others’ words, particularly ones dealing with libertarianism and Ron Paul’s presidential campaign. He also was a fan of the English author G.K. Chesterton

“He was shy and he sat by himself a lot at lunch,” said Sheppard, an eighth-grader. “He didn’t really seem to fit in with the other teachers.”

Maria Boyance, 16, said students knew Schumerth had been fired and had to be escorted out of class. She called him an “awkward man.”
Seventh-grader Brandon Steele said some students even joked he would come back and do something. Then they were terrified and crying

was failing to meet the expectations of the School and was repeatedly counseled for issues associated with attendance and a lack of timeliness in complying with the requirements of the position.

The separation meeting was held away from students and with a witness.

For most of this semester, Shane Schumerth wasn’t focused on Spanish, the language he was supposed to be teaching to students at Episcopal School of Jacksonville, said some in his class.

Instead, the 28-year-old teacher spent most of the time talking about fascism and politics, the only nod to the purported topic being occasional dips into Spanish history.

“Over the last several weeks, he seemed dark,” said Rob Cantrell, whose son was in Schumerth's class. “He repeatedly talked about the communist manifesto and marxism. Something wasn't right.”

It was a departure for the Indiana native, who had a gift for language and had devoted himself to Spanish since his high school days.
Schumerth killed himself Tuesday after killing Episcopal’s head of school.

he was hired by Duval County Public Schools to teach at John E. Ford, a K-8 Spanish-language immersion school.

He started well there but soon faltered: A March 2010 evaluation rated him as needing improvement in aspects of teaching such as delivering effective instruction and maintaining appropriate discipline in the classroom.
Five months later he moved on to Episcopal, repaying the county $1,000 for breaking his three-year contract with the district.

politics seems to have been a topic he was passionate about, based on his Facebook page. He rarely posted himself, but often reposted others’ words, particularly ones dealing with libertarianism and Ron Paul’s presidential campaign.
He also was a fan of the English author G.K. Chesterton, reposting his thoughts on both religion and politics.
Schumerth’s final post, from Sunday, was a lengthy Chesterton quote that began: “But the man we see every day — the worker in Mr. Gradgrind’s factory, the little clerk in Mr. Gradgrind’s office — he is too mentally worried to believe in freedom. He is kept quiet with revolutionary literature. He is calmed and kept in his place by a constant succession of wild philosophies.”
In November, he noted MSNBC’s ranking of Jacksonville as the sixth-most unhappy city in the country, and wrote, in part: “I always knew Jacksonville ranks in something. Before I came down here Forbes ranked it as the fifth-best place to start out. I still want an apology from them for this. They should have considered quality of life.”
Schumerth was involved in several activities during his time in Jacksonville — acting classes, martial arts classes, the taxpayer group.
