Kelley also denied defense motions to dismiss the charges against Elkins and his mother, Karimah Elkins, 36, who is on trial with her son. She is charged with giving a false alibi to police on his behalf and tampering with evidence in disposing of the gun police say was used to kill Antonio.
During West’s final moments of cross examination, she repeatedly batted away questions about whether she had changed her story or that she had misidentified Elkins. To most questions she replied, “I don’t recall” and “Possibly.”
“I just remember identifying him and being sure,” she said.
The first defense witness was West’s 21-year-old estranged daughter, Ashley Glassey of Runnemede, N.J., who was released from a New Jersey jail on shoplifting charges long enough to testify.
During her tearful testimony, Glassey explained that she never met Antonio. She testified that she saw her mother only briefly four years ago and that it was the first time since West lost custody of Glassey when she was 8.
West called her the evening of March 21 to tell her that her half brother had been killed that morning, Glassey said.
“She asked me how long I thought it would take to get the life insurance policy, the check to come,” Glassey said. Glassey testified that she was familiar with insurance after having handled her grandmother’s affairs.
That night, Glassey had trouble sleeping because in the retelling over the phone West had changed the order of who was shot first, her or the baby. It bothered Glassey enough to call Brunswick police who never returned the call or investigated, she testified.
“Some things she said to me just didn’t add up,” Glassey said. “I felt like I got blown off [by the police].”

2 teens arrested in slaying of Ga. infant in stroller
Seventeen-year-old De'Marquise Kareem Elkins, the suspected gunman, was charged as an adult with first-degree murder, said Brunswick Police Chief Tobe Green. A 14-year-old companion was also charged with murder but was not identified because he is a juvenile. They were arrested early Friday.
Sherry West said she and her 13-month-old son, Antonio Santiago, were on a walk about 9 a.m. Thursday when they were approached by two young men. The older teen brandished a handgun and demanded money.
After telling him she didn't have any money, the gunman then asked, "Do you want me to kill your baby?" West told the Associated Press.

West said he fired the first shot into the ground, then shot her in the left ear and upper left leg. The gunman then walked around the stroller and shot her child once in the face, killing him instantly.
