1 killed 1 arrested January 1, 2014 Popular Catholic priest Rev. Eric Freed was found bludgeoned to death in the rectory of St.Bernard Catholic Church in Eureka California the morning after he held mass on NewYear's eve. An arrest warrant was issued for Gary Lee Bullock who had been arrested and jailed and hospitalized and released due to disorderly conduct and warned not to hang around the church just before the killing. Police have not released a motive, but they have ruled out robbery and believe it was a random attack. The Vatican's list of matyrs for the faith included the killing of Freed, which suggests he might have been killed for his religion.

It is not believed that this attack is related to a global epidemic of attacks against pastors and priests by random thugs, rogue church members and former employees, criminals, and members of rival religions.

Eureka police on Thursday says investigators are trying to locate 43-year-old Gary Lee Bullock of Redway in connection with the killing of the Rev. Eric Freed. The release says Freed sustained blunt force trauma before being discovered Wednesday morning in the St. Bernard Church rectory by a deacon.  There have been numerous attacks with arson, stabbings, acid attacks, shootings, bombings, and even paint on christian churches and clergy across the planet from here to Egypt and Zanzibar and nobody can come up with even one obvious motive for any of these attacks besides "crazy people"?

Gary Bullock is being held on $1 million bail... Bullock had been held in jail New Year's Eve on a disorderly conduct charge, but he was released shortly after midnight. Suspect in California priest's death taken into custody CNN   (CNN) -- Authorities have taken into custody a California man who they believe killed a Roman Catholic priest in a church rectory, the police chief said.
