This sounds like gross overreaction by some prosecutor who is planning to run for office on an anti-crime program. This kid was obviously being a jerk when he wrote this and had no intention whatsoever of carrying anything like this out. What you may be seeing here is an attempt to wreck this young man's life, damage and bankrupt his family, cause fear in the community, frightens his neighbors, mortify his friends and associates all to make some kind of a statement and also to make an example out of him.

Look at it this way, if you were to make book on the likelihood of this kid actually doing this based on what is now known about him, what he was responding to, his age and general punkishness, what do you think the likelihood would be if you actually had real money on it? I wouldn't bet one in a thousand on it. For law enforcement to prosecute such odds on this kid actually being dangerous is a glaring admission of incompetence and malice on their part.

Of course they had to look into something like this but to go this far with it is simply wrong. Think about it. This could happen to your child or the child of someone you care about.

$500,000 bail? If it turns out that Carter does not have any history of mental illness then I would hope that the prosecutor's will be held accountable for charging him. What he said was inexcusably horrible and insensitive but to charge him with these felonies for a despicable joke? That has to be deemed unconstitutional.
