June 18, 2018  Welfare-for-cash scheme at halal market Ali Ratib Daham, 41 previous owner of Ahram Halal Market in Portland Maine  pleaded guilty in November to one count each of conspiracy to defraud the U.S. government, money laundering and theft of government funds for trading $1.4 million in federal food benefits for cash with his brother. He was n U.S. District Court to three years in prison.
