July 31, 2017 Helfrich and Wallraff Shoot At Pursuing La Crescent Police Two men are in custody facing attempted murder charges after engaging in a gunfight with police and a high-speed chase through Houston County. Chase began 1:30 a.m. at the Kwik Trip in La Crescent, Minnesota. Police officers saw two men behaving suspiciously at the store. As police approached their car, suspects opened fire, then sped away, with Wallraff firing at pursuing squad cars through the smashed back window of the car. [1] The Post Bulletin reported "Wyatt Robert Helfrich, 20, of Holmen, Wis. entered the guilty pleas in a plea deal. William Gerald Wallraff, 30, was convicted of one count each of first-degree assault, use of deadly force against a peace officer, and second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon in Houston County District Court. Thirteen additional charges were dismissed as part of a plea agreement "[2]
