Taxi driver loses control & accidentally drives into crowd in Moscow (VIDEO)
Edited time: 16 Jun, 2018 23:56
A Moscow taxi driver reportedly lost control of his car and drove his vehicle onto a crowded sidewalk, injuring seven people . The vehicle ran into several pedestrians then crashed into a road sign. The driver attempted to flee the site of the crash, with a visibly angry crowd chasing him, footage shot by bystanders shows. It remains unclear whether people apprehended the suspect, or if police got to him first. “According to preliminary data, the crash occurred when the driver lost control of the car,” Moscow police said, after questioning the detained suspect and launching a criminal probe into the incident. The man, who insists he had not driven into the crowd on purpose, had a Kyrgyz driving license and had worked as a taxi driver in Moscow for just about a month. According to sources familiar with the investigation, the driver was not drunk and claims he fled only because he was disoriented and scared. He reportedly said he was falling asleep after working all night, and had “accidentally” pressed the accelerator instead of brakes

Moscow crash taxi driver 'feared crowd lynching'

BBC

Russia is anxious to present a safe World Cup. But have they just covered up a terrorist attack?

The Independent  Russia is anxious to present a safe World Cup. But have they just covered up a terrorist attack? ‘We don’t know what happened ... but we also know that we can’t trust the official Russian line,’ says security expert  Oliver Carroll Volgograd   video interrogation of a taxi driver who drove into pedestrians in central Moscow on Saturday. In it, he claims he got his pedals mixed up and lost control after 20 straight hours of driving.

The testimony fell in line with official accounts, which described the incident as a “tragic accident” soon after the news broke. But some have pointed at inconsistencies in both accounts, with speculation that authorities may be covering up a more serious incident.

video of the incident released yesterday does not seem to bear out the driver’s account of what happened. Most obviously, his car appears to accelerate after the driver passes the pedestrian at the zebra crossing,

state media has been slow in reporting the incident, and some ignored it altogether. In the past, media outlets that are loyal to the government have maintained news blackouts for terror-related incidents

ebruary 2016, for example, most chose not to report a woman who appeared at a Moscow metro station with a decapitated baby’s head, shouting “Allahu akbar.” (It was later reported the woman had mental health problems.) In December 2017, after a bus ploughed into a busy underpass in rush hour, most Russian stations again chose not to question the official account of a driver losing control.

just because this guy is from Kyrgyzstan does not mean he is a terrorist,” says the security expert Mark Galeotti. “But we also know that we can’t trust the official Russian line.”
