Was Chinese JF-17 Thunder Based on Northrop F-20?

The Northrop F-20 was sold to China in 1988, 
thereafter the PAC JF-17 Thunder, 
or CAC FC-1 Xiaolong.

1. The scorpion is 'Armed-Recce' for airborne-policing,
much like the AV-8B++/GR-9 has been for decades.
The latter also fits Ship, short improvised runways
likewise the lack of which,
and can effectively defend itself in the air.

2. In the role of EW, even the Growler is a bit too
small and in SEAD and long-range,
the strike-Eagle far surpasses the itsy-bitsy F-16.

3. The F-35 falls between the seats of
aforementioned [1] & [2].

4. The Northrop F-20 was sold to China in 1988,
thereafter the PAC JF-17 Thunder,
or CAC FC-1 Xiaolong.
