At 7:40 am, six improvised explosive devicesdetonated outside the Communist Party's 20-story provincial headquarters.[1][2] One person was killed, and eight others were injured.[3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10]Suspect[edit]
41-year-old Feng Zhijun was arrested on the morning on November 8, 2013 in connection with the bombing. He confessed to setting off the explosions. Feng was a resident of Xinghualing District in Taiyuan, and is a convicted thief.[1]See also[edit]

In one of the most sophisticated bombing attacks in China in recent years, seven improvised explosive devices detonated almost simultaneously Wednesday near the Communist Party headquarters in the provincial city of Taiyuan.
Initial reports said one person was dead and at least eight others injured, one critically.
The bombs went off at 7.40 a.m., as government employees were streaming in to work, and scattered metal pellets and ball bearings through the crowds

State media said seven or eight explosions were heard. Authorities later found steel balls and circuit boards scattered around the scene, leading police to believe that improvised explosive devices were used, according to the official Xinhua news agency.
"Based on the details, personally I think this incident features characteristics of a terrorist attack," said Li Wei, one of China's top experts and government advisers on terrorism. "Obviously it was well plotted."

November 8, 2013 Suspect 41 yr old Feng Zhijun was arrested 2:00 a.m. Friday who was arrested and confessed to setting the bombs in Shangxi, but gave no hint of his motive. Bombmaking materials were found when his home was searched. He had previously been sentenced to 9 years in prison

Ball bearings and nails were found scattered at the scene, leading Xinhua to report the blasts were caused by "self-made bombs." Such materials are often used to help maximize damage to passersby.
One witness told Xinhua he was waiting on a traffic light in front the building when saw a minivan explode.
Wednesday's incident also bore similarities to past attacks committed by Chinese petitioners from across the country who sometimes target government buildings in an attempt to have their grievances heard.
