Oswald's Russian diary was a fake. It was written in only two sittings just before he returned to the United States in 1962
New York Magazine reported on an intense intelligence war in which the Soviets used phony defectors to pass on disinformation and confuse American intelligence agents
In 1961 CIA learned Soviet-controlled agents were operating within the CIA and FBI, termed "moles"
Oswald worked for Marines at Atsugi air base in Japan where he had access to U-2 flight and altitude profiles, was recruited in Japan, had access to altitude profile of U-2 which led to shoot down of Francis Gary Powers. Powers thought Oswald was responsible an for questioned he got in the Soviet union
went to opera, dated beautiful women, apartment in Minsk with two terraces and a river view
living allowance from Soviet security agency
left luxury because after getting U-2 intelligence, he was of no use in Russia
author does not know why sent to USA (other source says to bring back wife who was a spy)
Dr. Thea Stein Lewinson looked at diary with microscope and concluded it was fake, written in two sittings
diary had anachronisms, and not US english. 1959 entries mention official not in office until 1961.
Fake names attached to numbers in address book, CIA traced some of the numbers many led to Soviet ministry offices
Russian emigre looked at photos of Minsk, he was in affluent part of Minsk, tiled floors, modern furniture, entertained son of "hero of the Soviet Union" general P.Y. Golovachev
standard to provide legend or cover story for agents
Jaggars-Chiles-Stovall printer was doing classified work for the Army map service, typeset names of intelligence targets to be fixed to maps based on pictures taken by U-2 spy planes
scrawled "mirodots" in address book, method of miniturizing data to pass on to another agent
someone probably placed him at a job there, since it was similar to U-2 work he had before, probably engaged in espionage ther.
FBI intercepted letter dated November 8, told Soviet Embassy in Washington he had been unable to get to Havana to conclude "business" with the Sov Emb in Cuba
Marina passed on her address in Ft Worth to Soviet Embassy, which passed the letter to a paymaster for spies on the US eastern seaboard.
George De Mohrenschildt became a close friend in Dallas. Had connections with the intel community back to the 1930s, worked for French, contacts in Polish, Finnish and German agencies, approached by Soviets... introduced Oswald to many people.. believe he was handling Oswald in one way or another for some intelligence agency, I do not know which..
Marina had scribbled on the back of the man-rifle photo "Hunter of Facists" suggests foreknowledge he was going to hunt a facist American general
..I think the fact that Oswald traces so clearly back to the Russians makes it extremely unlikely that they would have recruited him as an assassin.
