April 29, 2013 Ukranian Student Pavlo Lapshyn stabbed and murdered muslim Mohammed Saleem as he walked home from a mosque on April 29. He also admitted to causing an explosion on 12 July near the Kanzal Iman mosque in Tipton and planting bombs near mosques in Walsall and Wolverhampton, researching locations to plant bombs and buying chemicals on the internet to make explosives. He was inspired by the Chechen Boston bombers and his stated motive was "I have a racial hatred, so I have a motivation" He was spared life imprisonment because the judge did not believe he killed for a greater cause.

A Ukrainian white supremacist who launched a one man race war in the UK has avoided spending the rest of his life behind bars.
Pavlo Lapshyn, 25, was jailed for life with a minimum of 40 years after murdering a Muslim pensioner and exploding three homemade bombs near mosques in the West Midlands.
The two month campaign, inspired by the Boston bombers, was launched within five days of Lapshyn arriving in the UK but it emerged he had been planning the outrages for more than a year.

Another file contained a supremacist computer game called “Ethnic cleansing” in which players had to kill African, Arabian and Jewish people.
He also had news footage of the aftermath of the Boston bombings, when Chechan brothers Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev targeted the US city’s marathon in April this year, killing three injuring 264.
Mr Wright told the court that when arrested Lapshyn was planning to carry out more bombings in the UK.
Lapshyn, a PHD engineering student, had come to the UK on an international work placement in April this year but carried out the unprovoked murder of Mr Saleem within five days of arriving.
After his arrest, the 25-year-old, from Dnipropetrovsk, Ukraine, told police he picked the frail pensioner because he had a racial hatred of "non-whites".
In police interview, he said: “I would like to increase racial conflict.
“I did it because they are not white and I am white.
Asked why he had attacked Mr Saleem, he said: “I have a racial hatred, so I have a motivation, a racial motivation and a racial hatred.”

...The judge said that he was not convinced that Lapshyn had killed to further any wider cause, and so had decided not to pass a whole life tariff.
