  • 1997 in Cary, NC a worker attempted to purge air from a natural gas line into a laundry room during a startup of a commercial dryer. Six workers injured, and a partial roof collapse occurred.
  • 1999 at a Ford power plant in Dearborn, MI six people were killed, 38 injured and $1 billion in property damage occurred. A gas pipe being removed from service was purged into a boiler.
  • In 2007 two plumbers in Cheyenne, WY were severely burned during the purging of natural gas into the interior of a new hotel under construction
  • January 2007 one worker and nine others were injured at an American Electric Power plant of the same type in Beverly, Ohio.
  • November 2007, an explosion at a Dominion Virginia Power coal-fired plant in Massachusetts killed three workers
  • During the construction of a 30 story hotel in 2008 in San Diego, an explosion injured 14 workers anddamaged 3 levels of the building. CalOSHA cited acontractor for not venting from an enclosed spaceand failure to test for flammable gases.

  • February 2009, an explosion at a We Energies coal-fired power plant near Milwaukee burned six workers.
  • October 29, 2009 Jaipur Rjaesthan India oil depot fire broke out after an explosion at a oil depot's giant tank holding 8,000 kilolitres (280,000 cu ft) of oil killing 12 people and injuring over 200, and causing evacuation of half a million people were evacuated from the area. The first explosion registered 2.3 on the Richter shattering of glass window nearly 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) away. Cause was blamed on negligence.
  • February 7, 2010 2010 Connecticut power plant explosion occurred at the Kleen Energy Systems power station in Middletown, Connecticut The initial blast killed five and injured at least fifty; one of the injured later died in hospital, bringing the total death toll to six.[1][4] According to authorities, neither terrorism or an intentional crime was the cause of the explosion, though criminal negligence was being investigated.

  • September 9, 2010  worst natural gas pipeline catastrophe in a decade — an explosion and fire in San Bruno, Calif., on Sept. 9 that killed eight people and destroyed 38 homes. Early findings linked the San Bruno accident to problems in the pipeline, built in the 1950s, and electrical problems in the broader pipeline system. Blamed on numerous faulty welds in high pressure pipe which may have failed and leaked, causing smell of gas in neighborhood. The explosion blew large pipe onto the street. 
  • Jan. 18 2011 Philadelphia. A gas line blast killed a worker for the city-owned gas company, injured six and flattened cars and buildings
  • Jan. 24 2011  Fairport, Ohio. Nine buildings were destroyed and others damaged in this small town on Lake Erie near Cleveland when a natural gas line malfunctioned and filled homes with gas. Residents were evacuated and survived.
  • May 20, 2011 Explosion at Apple Supplier Caused by Dust NYTimes   A facility in Chengdu operated by Foxconn, one of the world's biggest contract electronics manufacturers, had to be partially shut down after an explosion  killed three workers and injured 15 others. It was caused by combustible dust, according to a preliminary investigation by the local authorities.
  • November 6, 2011, an explosion occurred near Woodside, California during strength testing of PG&E pipelines. The explosion caused a mudslide in the area, however no casualties were reported.
  • December 29, 2011   Wayne, Mich. Two furniture store employees were killed and the owner seriously injured Dec. 29 in the Detroit suburb when the gas line apparently exploded. Also, a fire killed a worker Tuesday at a natural gas plant in Mont Belvieu, Texas, near Houston. The cause isn't known.

  • October 3, 2012 In China video A fuel truck at a refueling station suddenly explodes into flame from inside the fuel tank.
  • October 8, 2012 In China Business Insider  Two people were killed when a propane tanker flips over. When the canister ruptured the explosion killed another three firefighters.
  • November 2, 2011  Fuquan China in Guizhou province. Two illegally parked trucks loaded with 70 metric tons of explosives exploded near a busy vehicle testing station killing 8, injuring 218, 9 critical.  School for 6,000 student were cancelled due to building damage. Netizens speculated it looked like a terrorist bomb, but it was never characterized as terrorism by the media.

  • November 21, 2012 Carbon County Utah Ruptured pipeline to blameTwo men are burned when a natural gas compressor station exploded "A 12-inch, high-pressure gas line had been damaged at some point by a backhoe," Mills said. "You could see score marks along the top of the pipe where the backhoe teeth had rubbed on the top of the pipe and scored the pipe.
  • January 10, 2013 EMS1 South China Morning Post reports Twenty-one people were injured, one critically, after a fire sparked by a gas explosion tore through a crowded restaurant at lunch hour. A technician had been carrying out work in the restaurant's air conditioning room
  • January 24, 2013 dailymail a gas pipe explosion blew up an entire street in the an upmarket and modern town of Beihai in China's Guangxi Province. “A series of blasts tore through thick layers of concrete and tarmac. It is not known what caused the explosion which was so powerful it rocked nearby flats and left the pleasant, palm-tree tree-lined road resembling a war zone.”
  • March 4, 2013 Zee News More than 20 workers were injured in a gas explosion at a construction site in an underground shopping street in northeast China's Liaoning province. Caused by a gas leak from underground pipelines
  • March 30, 2013 Al Jazeera At least 28 people are killed in a massive gas explosion in a coal mine in Jilin province China due to the “industry's notoriously poor safety record” The cause was “under investigation”. Al Jazeera proclaims “its mines are among the deadliest in the world because of lax regulation, corruption and inefficiency. Accidents are common because safety is often neglected by bosses seeking quick profits.”
  • 04/05/2013 LANGSTON, Oklahoma. No one is injured after an explosion at a natural gas compressor station. | Earth First  notes the explosion on its blog which provides links to manuals on “monkeywrenching” on how to sabotage rural infrastructure like vehicles and power lines, but not pipelines.

  • April 28, 2013France Apartment Explosion   At least three people were killed and 14 others injured in a huge explosion in Reims France. The. blast destroyed 10 apartments in the four-story building  "We don't know the cause of the explosion. It was probably due to gas," Reims mayor Adeline Hazan said at the scene This is the second explosion in Reims in the past month. On April 3, four people died in a building blast.
  • Sunday, April 28, 2013.  At least three people were killed and 14 others injured in a huge explosion in Reims France which destroyed 10 apartments in the four-story building  "We don't know the cause of the explosion. It was probably due to gas," Reims mayor Adeline Hazan said at the scene This is the second explosion in Reims in the past month. On April 3, in Witry-les-Reims (Marne) four people were killed and another seriously injured in an explosion that was thought to be caused by gas, causing a partial collapse of the building housing the housing. The April 3rd explosion was not reported outside of French press while the April 28 got worldwide coverage. Another gas explosion hit Prague
  • April 29, 2013 Prague Explosion A gas explosion rips through a major building in central Prague, injuring 35 people and prompting evacuations of nearby buildings in the Czech capital. Pragues mayor told reporters "We can now confirm this was a gas explosion. It was not a terrorist attack"

    • May 19, 2013 In Narathiwat, Thailand, its southern-most muslim majority province.a homemade bomb exploded at hotel.The ceilings fell down in two third-floor rooms. Bomb experts believe it was a 5 kg device hidden on ashtray. Surveilance video resulted in arrests of 4 suspects later that day who checked in before and left after the explosion. Two other people were shot and killed in what Police believed could be insurgent attacks. A defence volunteer was shot dead at his home, while a elderly resident was shot dead in a drive-by attack he was walking to a mosque.


August 2013

August 20, 20123 8 hurt in explosion, fire at Naval Weapons Station Earle 

At least eight sailors were injured after an explosion and fire at the Naval Weapons Station Earle in Middletown, New JerseyAt least eight people and one firefighter were taken to the hospital after an explosion and fire in a building at the Naval Weapon Station. A welding accident took place inside one of the buildings on the site. The blast blew a hole through the roof of the building.

September 7th, 2013 Riverside Explosion Destroys Home, Gas Leak Cited as Possible Cause
blast took place in a residential neighborhood in the town of Riverside, destroying a home and causing damage to at least two other ones. Officials believe that a gas leak has prompted the explosion.

January 20, 2014 Omaha Feed Plant Explosion 2 killed, 10 injured in explosion at International Nutrition animal feed plant in Omaha Nebraska.

casualties: 93 8 dead, 5 missing, 70 injured, loss: 2 buildings destroyed March 12, 2014 East Harlem Gas Explosion At 9:31 a.m. an explosion occurred in East Harlem, Manhattan, New York City, just north of the intersection of 116th Street and Park Avenue, leveling two buildings located at 1644 and 1646 Park Avenue, killing at least eight people and injuring at least 70 others. At least five other people remain missing. City officials said a gas leak caused the blast. In April a gas blast leveled 2 blocks in North Bend, Washington.

April 24, 2014 Puyallup Superwoman Explosion Hoax A Puyallup woman Melinda Kay Sayers firefighters called “Superwoman” for rescuing her son before an explosion destroyed their home on April 1 has been arrested on suspicion of first-degree arson. She had said that she and her 2-year-old son, Eli, became trapped in her bedroom after she saw smoke.

April 25, 2014 North Bend WA Multiple Building Explosion In North Bend, Washington an explosion rocked a gas station and flattened or damaged 3 other buildings. The cause under investigation might have been gas.
