Shooting was at a school-sanctioned fraternity and sorority event. Hours after the first shooting, shots rang out again, this time in the parking lot at University Courtyard, a student-run housing complex near the main campus. Early November, a student was shot at a residence hall near the campus in what police determined was an isolated act. 2 charged. DSU has a long and proud history as one of America’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) with a 67 percent African-American enrollment

Burton struck a speeding Dodge Charger which flipped Burton's car on its roof  and he died at the scene.
