December 24, 2012 3 killed including suspect, accomplice convicted William Spengler Terrorist Ambush Shooting of Webster Firefighters In apparent ambush, William Spengler, 62, gunned down four volunteer firefighters, killing two while responding to a car fire in Webster, N.Y. Spengler took his own life with gunshot to the head, a coroner said Thursday. Spengter left a typewritten note saying he wanted to burn down the neighborhood and “do what I like doing best, killing people.” Webster Police Chief Gerald Pickering said Tuesday that the man’s sister hasn’t been found yet. The 62-year-old ex-convict William Spengler armed himself with three weapons and set his house afire to lure first responders into a death trap. He could not get a gun legally, but got it from Dawn Ngyuen who was convicted in 2014. Spengler had served 17 years in prison for manslaughter in the 1980 hammer slaying of his grandmother.
