Militaristic organization suspected in MH370's disappearance
. |
On May 4, eleven individuals have been arrested over the disappearance of flight Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 (MH370) in the city of Selangor, just outside the Malaysia capital, Kuala Lumpur. The suspects were thought to be affiliated with an organization suspected of the disappearance of the plane two months ago, on March 8. The search for the missing plane continued.
The suspects were a mixture of odd-job laborers, businessmen, and students and were believed to have had links with terrorism in other countries. Investigators from the FBI and MI6 allegedly had questioned the detainees about the disappearance. A Terrorism Division official from the Malaysian Special Branch reported that the arrests raised the fear that the disappearance was probable terrorism. He claimed that some of the suspects confessed to have been plotting terror acts in Malaysia.
There was no direct evidence of these individuals being responsible for MH370's disappearance, but they are believed to be affiliated with a group suspected of hijacking the plane. More arrests were expected to be made as a precaution to find if there were any culprits.
An officer with the Counter Terrorism Division of Malaysian Special Branch said the arrests further raised suspicions that the disappearance of the flight may have been an act of terrorism, by saying "The possibility that the plane was diverted by militants is still high on the list and international investigators have asked for a comprehensive report on this new terror group."
Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 went missing on March 8, less than an hour after takeoff on a scheduled flight from Kuala Lumpur and Beijing. No crash site has been found, nor any debris confirmed.
