The first explosion registered 2.3 on the Richter shattering of glass window nearly 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) away. Cause was blamed on negligence.
  • September 9, 2010  worst natural gas pipeline catastrophe in a decade — an explosion and fire in San Bruno, Calif., on Sept. 9 that killed eight people and destroyed 38 homes. Early findings linked the San Bruno accident to problems in the pipeline, built in the 1950s, and electrical problems in the broader pipeline system. Blamed on numerous faulty welds in high pressure pipe which may have failed and leaked, causing smell of gas in neighborhood. The explosion blew large pipe onto the street.
  • Jan. 24 2011  Fairport, Ohio. Nine buildings were destroyed and others damaged in this small town on Lake Erie near Cleveland when a natural gas line malfunctioned and filled homes with gas. Residents were evacuated and survived.

  • August 19, 2011 Massive fire broke at a BP gas station near Saint Augustine, Florida after a storage tank with a broken gauge overflowed while being filled. A half mile radius was evacuated around the station, the highway was closed, and over 4000 homes and businesses lost power as three fire and rescue units fought to contain the blaze.  kpaonline
  • November 6, 2011, an explosion occurred near Woodside, California during strength testing of PG&;E pipelines. The explosion caused a mudslide in the area, however no casualties were reported.
  • December 29, 2011   Wayne, Mich. Two furniture store employees were killed and the owner seriously injured Dec. 29 in the Detroit suburb when the gas line apparently exploded. Also, a fire killed a worker Tuesday at a natural gas plant in Mont Belvieu, Texas, near Houston. The cause isn't known.

  • October 8, 2012 In China Business Insider  Two people were killed when a propane tanker flips over. When the canister ruptured the explosion killed another three firefighters.
  • November 2, 2011  Fuquan China in Guizhou province. Two illegally parked trucks loaded with 70 metric tons of explosives exploded near a busy vehicle testing station killing 8, injuring 218, 9 critical.  School for 6,000 student were cancelled due to building damage. Netizens speculated it looked like a terrorist bomb, but it was never characterized as terrorism by the media.
