Asian Attacker | School Attacks |Terroristic Incidents
University of New Haven Gunman Lockdown December 3, 2013 The University of New Haven was lockdown after a person at a nearby store reported "an Asian male near South Campus with what appears to be a rifle" walking towards campus. William Dong, 22, was taken into custody on $500,000 bail.ome guns were recovered while students and nearby Forest Elementary and Carrigan Intermediate schools and Notre Dame High School were in lockdown as a search was continuing for any additional threats. A previous report of a gunman at Yale was thought to be hoax, while Central Connecticut State University in New Britain was locked down after over a man who claimed he was just wearing a Halloween nija commando costume
Dong faced charges of illegal transport of a assault weapon, which was a Bushmaster .223 Assault Rifle with a collapsible stock, similar to the one at Sandy Hook, illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle and breach of peace. Police found numerous pistol magazines, 2,7000 rounds ammunition and newspaper clippings of Aurora and other mass shootings in a search of his padlocked room at his parent's home from where he commuted to the school as a student. He's now been suspended for bringing a gun on campus. Dong told police the gun was to protect himself from mass shootings, and that the gun was in his car to use at a firing range the next day. He was quickly arrested 20 minutes after the 911 call with two loaded handguns, a 9mm Glock 26 with 10 rounds and a a .40-caliber Glock 22 with 15 rounds, plus the fully loaded rifle found in his Rav4 along with a magazine attached to the collapsible stock, four additional 30-round magazines and three Glock magazines that carried a combined 52 rounds. Friends called it a misunderstanding as he carries weapons while working at an armored truck company that delivers money, and are pretty "sure he's not going to go out and shoot people" but doesn't understand the laws about carrying guns.
Short insights:
- the only law the guy broke was carrying permitted weapons on a campus that has a strict weapons ban. Chances are he will not see very much jail time if any
- I don't care how old your child is, if they live in your house and pad lock their door so you have no access, you likely have a problem on your hands.

Potential shooter in custody, and they keep schools locked down. 3rd "potential" shooter in a CT college in 30 days without a single shot fired. This is ridiculous. This see something say something BS along with extra precaution does not prevent violence. It creates chaos. If a person really wanted to kill someone they would look less suspicious until the moment they were to fire. Counting my days till I leave CT and their stupidity.

This is more of the mass hysteria that people pull, when they see anyone carrying a gun. This insanity has to stop. People either have lost their Mind, Common Sense or their Moral compass.

I was there, locked down on the main campus. Personally, I am not concerned with gun laws or gun rights or arguing either side. I am very pleased with the response by the police. Read the updated article. Things aren't adding up to an innocent or ignorant mistake.Who needs to be walking around with a rifle on a campus in the middle of the day? When it comes to the safety of our children (there were K-12 schools nearby also) why mess around? Why take a chance? Better to be safe and "false flag" or overreact than regret not making a different call after 26 people are killed. We know it happens, we see it happen over and over. We might be an oversensitive society now, but hey, that is what the current behavior in our culture calls for, so lets utilize the police and lock downs to keep innocent people safe.

I agree completely. I don't mind being locked down for hours if it means that students, staff, and faculty are all safe. If something had happened to us, this would be a very different story. It is never over-reacting to prevent any type of violence on campus.

Try reading the story - he wasn't walking around campus with a rifle. He wasn't walking around with a rifle at all. You are trading away your freedoms for the illusion of safety and play into this media sensationalized story inducing panic and vilifying an inanimate tool. Going in to "lockdown" doesn't prevent violence - it creates a situation where the police have an easier time differentiating the good guys from the bad guys.

I did read the story. He was on campus with a rifle, you are correct in that I said "walking" around, which I should not have. He stashed the rifle nearby and was walking. I believe the two results in the same perspective eventually, a rifle on campus at all is not allowed or necessary. I didn't say the lockdown prevented violence, but I agree with you in that it does creates a situation where the police have an easier time differentiating the good guys from the bad guys. You have stated that better than I did. I respect your opinion Jeff, but I disagree with your view on my freedom. Fortunately we live in a country where that is allowed; we are each entitled to our perspective thanks to our freedoms. Have a nice day Jeff.

This isn't "false flag", but its way over reaction. The guy is in custody, police found no weapons, and according to them they arn't looking for anyone else. Now every Police department in the state that wants to be "tactical" are still showing up. "Guy with a gun" is turning into the new bomb threat. Wonder how many of these reports are going to pop up during exam time.

We can assume this guy had the intention of killing people, that's a fair assumption, but the only law the guy broke was carrying permitted weapons on a campus that has a strict weapons ban. Chances are he will not see very much jail time if any. They're gonna need to keep a close eye on this guy because I bet he'll get his guns back. I'm all for the right to keep and bear arms but this guy is a massacre waiting to happen. I wonder how this will all play out. I hope we don't here about this guy shooting a bunch of people sometime in the future
