List of road accidents records serious road accidents that caused a high death toll, occurred in unusual circumstances, or hold some other historical significance. The prevalence of bus accidents in this list is a function of severity rather than of frequency.

  • Italy February 16 — A bus crashed and went down an embankment near the town of MassaItaly. The accident killed three French people and 20 were injured.[2]
  • India February 17 — A bus with wedding guests crashed into a river in Jalaun DistrictIndia, killing at least 22 people with at least another 10 people unaccounted for.[3]
  • Nepal March 18 — A crowded bus veered off a mountain road in Nepal and plunged into a river just west ofKathmandu, killing 24.[6]
  • United Kingdom March 31 — A coach crashed into a river after falling from a bridge in a snow storm in Lanark,Scotland killing a 17 year old girl and injuring 44 passengers.[8]
  • United States April 12 — A multiple-vehicle crash on a rain-slicked freeway north of Los Angeles killed 5.[9]
  • China May 23 — A truck travelling in the wrong direction on an expressway in China's north-east collided head-on with a bus. The collision occurred on a section of expressway that was undergoing maintenance in the city of Fuzin in Liaoning province. Thirty-two people were killed and twenty-one were injured and sent to the hospital.[11]
  • Albania July 18 — Fourteen people were killed and twelve injured after a bus fell off a cliff in northern Albania, near the city of Durrës.[15]
  • Democratic Republic of the Congo August 12 — Fifty-eight died when a lorry plunged into Lake Tanganyika in the Democratic Republic of Congo.[16]
  • Philippines August 18 — In the Philippines, a fully packed bus plunged off a mountain highway into a 100 foot (≈30.5 m) ravine killing 41 people.[17]
  • South Africa August 25 — At least 8 children were killed and 4 were injured when a school bus collided with a train.[18]
  • Germany September 26 — A Polish tourist bus returning from Spain careered into a bridge on a rain-soaked German motorway killing 13 people.[19]
  • Mexico October 19 — Eighteen people were killed when a bus collided with a truck, burst into flames, and flipped over in central Mexico.[23]
  • Uganda October 25 — Twenty-one people were killed when a bus collided with a fuel truck in northernUganda.[24]
  • Iraq December 3 — At least 15 people were killed, 11 Iranian, and 45 were injured, 22 Iranian, in a collision between two buses in Iraq.[25]

  • Guatemala January 9 — At least 14 people were killed and 50 injured in a bus crash in Guatemala.[26]
  • China January 12 — At least 16 people were killed and 23 injured when a bus collided with a car on a highway in Henan province.[27]
  • Pakistan January 23 — At least 32 people were killed and 9 injured after a bus collided with an oil tanker inPakistan.[28]
  • Thailand February 21 — At least 14 people were killed and 23 injured in bus crash in Thailand.[30]
  • Peru February 26 — At least 22 were killed and 39 were injured when a bus plunged into ravine.[31]
  • Peru April 2 — At least 20 people were killed and another 47 injured after a bus fell into a 200-meter ravine.[34]
  • Germany April 8 — Due to very low visibility in a dust/sand storm, 80 cars piled up in a mass crash on theAutobahn A19 in Germany, 30 caught fire. 8 people died and 131 were injured.[35]
  • Chile April 15 — At least 14 people were killed, including two children, and 17 were injured when a bus went off the road and fell off a five-meter high drop.[36]
  • Democratic Republic of the Congo April 19 — At least 32 people were killed after a truck hit a group of people in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Most of the fatalities were children. The driver was seriously injured.[37]
  • Afghanistan May 14 — At least 21 were killed, including 15 children, when a bus plunged into a canal in Balkh Province.[38]
  • Nigeria May 15 — Two passenger buses hit each other in the northern Nigerian state of Yobe. At least 18 people were killed and 11 were injured. The accident occurred when one of the buses collided into an oncoming passenger bus, causing a fire to break out in the first vehicle.[39]
  • Indonesia June 26 — A passenger bus crashed on the Indonesian Island of Sumatra and killed 14 people when it plunged from a hill into a ditch with water.[40]
  • Russia July 17 — At least 5 people were killed, including two children, and 19 were injured as a result of a collision between a passenger bus and a truck in Tomsk Oblast.[41]
  • Bangladesh July 28 — A bus collided head-on with a truck in Bangladesh, killing at least 17 people and injured 30.[42]
  • Afghanistan August 20 — At least 35 people were killed and several injured in a bus crash in southernAfghanistan.[43]

  • Egypt November 6 — At least 11 Hungarian tourists were killed and 27 were injured in a bus accident.[59]
  • Ghana November 26 — At least 30 were killed in a collision between two buses.[61]
  • Brazil December 3 — A truck collided with a bus in Mato Grosso state, Brazil. The crash killed 33 people.[62]
  • Tanzania December 6 — At least 6 were killed and 20 were injured in a bus accident.[63]
  • Thailand December 7 — At least 8 were killed and 50 were injured in bus accident in Thailand.[64]
  • Algeria December 7 — At least 7 people were killed and 22 injured in a bus accident.[65]
  • Kenya December 18 — A bus and a tanker collided in Kenya and killed 8 people.[66]
  • Malaysia December 20 — At least 8 Brunei tourists were killed when a bus hit a tree in Malaysia.[67]
  • South Africa December 27 — At least 19 killed when a minibus taxi collided with a car.[68]
  • Venezuela December 29 — At least 14 die when a tanker collided with a bus.[69]

  • India January 2 — At least 10 children, ages five to eight, and a driver were killed when bus collided with a truck in Haryana state.[71]
  • Ethiopia January 17 — Forty-three people were killed in Ethiopia when a bus fell 80 metres (≈260 ft) into a gorge north of the capital of Addis Ababa.[73]
  • Ukraine January 20 — At least nine people were killed and eight others injured when a minibus collided with a truck in western Ukraine's Rovno Region.[74]
  • United States January 29 — Eleven people were killed in multi-vehicle pile-up on Interstate 75 near Gainesville, Florida. Fog and smoke from a brush fire reducing visibility was given as its cause.[75]
  • Kenya February 4 — Twenty-six people were killed in a road accident in Kenya involving two mini buses along the Kisumu - Kakamega Highway. It was blamed on a police road block at a blind spot during the night.[77]
  • Kenya February 12 — Ten people were killed in Kenya when a mini bus plunged into a ditch along theNairobi - Nakuru highway.[79]
  • Kenya March 2 — Nine students were killed and more than forty injured when a truck lost control nearBungomaKenya and went into a crowd.[80]
  • United Kingdom March 24 — In a collision between a lorry and a coach on the M5 motorway one coach passenger died and 39 others were injured, two critically including the driver of the lorry who subsequently died.[82][83]
