Originally billed as the “Million Muslim March,” the name was changed to the more mainstream-sounding “Million American March Against Fear,” but when the new name didn’t seem to gain traction for the event, it was apparently changed back to its original title.
AMPAC is under the impression that Muslims nationwide have been significantly victimized by anti-Islamic bigotry in the years following the 9/11. “Yet our Government either sits idly by and does nothing to protect our freedoms or it exacerbates the problem with its constant war on terrorism in Islamic countries, congressional hearings on Islam in America, and its changes to the NDAA law,” an AMPAC statement reads. AMPAC’s founder, MD Rabbi Alam (who is not a rabbi), insists: “We Muslims have become villainized and victimized” following the attacks.” He also feels that he “is looked at” as one of the 19 Al Qaeda hijackers who committed the 9/11 attacks.
However, according to the FBI 10% of religiously motivated hate crimes since 9/11 were committed against Muslims, 8% against Christians and a whopping 68% committed against Jews. And yet, nothing on AMPAC’s website indicates any deep outpouring of sympathy for Jewish victims of hate crimes.
Dr. Zuhdi Jasser, president of the Islamic Forum for Democracy, told Fox News that, “they’re basically a bunch of ‘truthers’ who think that America’s to blame for everything.” Additionally, Jasser points out that The Anti-Defamation League has identified some of the leaders of the march as “being virulent, anti-Semites who think 9/11 was a conspiracy theory.” Jasser warns that, “these guys are problematic and they’re trying to exploit 9/11. If they were truly patriotic Americans and moderates, they’d be marching on the courthouse steps of the Fort Hood trial that’s happening this week to tell Americans that we want the death penalty for Nidal Hissan rather than this circus that they’re doing in exploiting the murders and horrific acts of 9/11.” Jasser went on to say that, “America has gone on to liberate Muslims. They gave our families freedom that we could not have in any so-called Muslim countries.”
So, who is MD Rabbi Alam and what is AMPAC all about? MD Alam was born and raised in Bangladesh where he earned two bachelor’s degrees—one in biology and the other in political science. Following his move to the US, Alam joined the US Army and served in both Afghanistan and Iraq. He also worked as a certified language interpreter for the Department of Defense.
In 2007, he founded the Missouri Democratic Party Asian American Caucus (MDPAAC), which now includes 11 county chapters. Then, in 2009 he became the National Chairman of the US National Democratic Party Asian American Caucus and was the Chair of first National Convention of National Democratic Party Asian American Caucus in 2011. In 2010, Alam served as the Democratic Party Committeeman of ward 26, having run unopposed. His term as committeeman expired in 2012.
MD Rabbi Alam is a 9/11 truther who has speculated about Jewish involvement in the 9/11 terrorist attacks. And, that was the impetus for the launch of AMPAC. AMPAC supports “anti-Zionist” Muslim candidates who embrace the notion that “the ‘war on terror’ is a hoax and that the official story of 9/11 is not true.”
MD Rabbi Alam was a “satellite campaign manager” for Barack Obama’s 2008 election effort and was subsequently rewarded with an invitation to the White House in 2011. It was as a Missouri-based Democratic activist that he came under fire in July of 2012 for telling the Free Beacon that “not a single Jew” was killed during the 9/11 attacks. Alam apologized for his comments, but the apology doesn’t appear to have been heartfelt, as the following is posted on AMPAC’s website:
“Whether or not Al Qaeda is completely mythical, the so-called “Islamic terrorist threat” is pure hallucination. FBI statistics prove that Americans are far more likely to drown in their bathtubs, or be hit by lightning, than to be killed by terrorists of any kind. And Muslims commit only 6% of terrorist attacks in the US – fewer than are committed by radical Jews, and vastly fewer than those perpetrated by leftists and hispanics.”
But, 97% of the FBI’s Most Wanted Terrorists are Islamic terrorists.
Alam has been married to Afroza Alam Tuli since 1996 and the couple have two children. Afroza also hails from Bangladesh and her Facebook page shows she liked the fan page of Dr. Zakir Naik, a popular Muslim televangelist who has been banned from the UK and made the following statement:
“If he [Osama bin Laden] is fighting the enemies of Islam, I am for him. If he is terrorizing the terrorists, if he is terrorizing America the terrorist, the biggest terrorist, I am with him. Every Muslim should be a terrorist.”
AMPAC’s stated goal is to get “Muslims elected to office” and become more active in the American political system. For his part, Alam has vowed to run as a Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate in 2016. And, unlike several Tea Party, Christian and pro-Israel organizations, APMAC had no trouble gaining approval from the IRS.
Some of Alam’s comrades are supporters of Viva Palestina, an organization with close ties to Hamas. And, a November 28, 2012 AMPAC meeting was posted on Ustream TV, in which members are encouraged to join the 9/11 Truther movement and to question the integrity of the 9/11 narrative. Janet Levy, writing for American Thinker in an article entitled Über-Stealth Jihad reports:
“In the video, AMPAC members agree on the importance of their goal to erase Muslim responsibility for 9/11. Alam can be heard saying, ‘We have an opportunity to be part of this movement; we should all join. Don’t bring up AMPAC. We join but give them ownership. They don’t know why people are joining. Make friends and stay focused. There is a way to stretch the truth.’
Also heard on the video speaking to the group via telephone is Muslim convert and radio talk show host Kevin James Barrett, listed by the Anti-Defamation League as one of the leading promoters of anti-Semitic 9/11 conspiracy theories. Barrett, who spouts the usual Jewish blood libels, has asserted that the United States and Israel have pushed a genocidal war on Islam and targeted Muslims worldwide. In the video, he claims to have contact with 9/11 Truthers and Nation of Islam (NOI) members. Barrett recommends that the group focus on involving African-Americans and notes that NOI is ‘one of the best organized groups out there.’ He refers to Louis Farrakhan and his close relationship with Imam Siraj Wahhaj, a radical Islamist member of CAIR, an unindicted co-conspirator in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing who advocates the replacement of the U.S. government with an Islamic caliphate under sharia.”
As for AMPAC’s March on Washington on September 11, its website states: “It is time to speak out and reject the destruction of the Constitution of the United States of America. The neocons were able to shred the Constitution because they succeeded, temporarily at least, in making us afraid of each other. But there is nothing to fear. Terrorism is not a statistically significant threat.” And, “as the 12th anniversary of 9/11 approaches, we now know that there is nothing to fear. The whole ‘terrorist threat’ is a hoax invented by fear-mongering politicians to control our minds and pick our pockets.”
