Pedal Pub Incidents

Pedal Pub Incidents ---

Pedal pubs are large 4-wheel bicycle style vehicles which have been attacked by apparent pranksters in water-armed organized terrorist style commando attacks, and rear ended by an apparently drunk driver. Is there a war on Pedal pubs?

A party bike
party bikepedal crawlerpedibuscycle pubbeer bikebierbike, or birriciclo is a multi-passenger human powered vehicle. A party bike is sometimes mistaken for a larger scale version of a pedicab, but it is not since the party bike is powered by the passengers while the steering and braking is controlled by the driver who does not provide pedaling power. Some also double as rolling refreshment stands.[1] Human-powered party bikes have been in use for decades and have grown into several families of vehicles for a variety of purposes, including tourist rentals and private touring.[2] They are not used as pedal taxis or pedicabs since the driver provides no power to the party bike and cannot pick up “fares” in the customary sense. They are often available at tourist attractions where they are rented by the hour or day and often serve as a rolling refreshment stand.[1] When used in conjunction with alcohol, the driver is usually hired with the party bike.

Accidents and Incidents[edit]

On May 23, 2015, in downtown Minneapolis, six people were arrested after they pelted a party bike with water balloons and squirt guns. The riders of the pub and an off duty cop helped hold the attackers down until police arrived.[9] Several of the attackers are facing terrorism charges.

On August 15, 2013, in downtown Minneapolis, a full party bike operated by a large beer bike company, tipped onto its right side while taking a turn after coming down a slight grade. Two of the riders were taken to the hospital by ambulance. A police spokesperson stated that "Alcohol does not appear to be a factor."[10]Earlier in the year, the city had entertained introducing new regulations and licensing for party bikes."[11]

Also in downtown Minneapolis, in 2011 a full party bike was briefly "attacked" by a large mob of youth, with no injuries and only a BlackBerry phone stolen.[12]

+john martinez She was controlling a vehicle that was carrying several passengers while on a roadway with other traffic. There certainly is the potential for danger in this scenario.

+theoko0707 I assume that you're talking about the quote from one of the PP owners. Per the quote, the vehicle was stopped only because the assailants stopped/obstructed it in the middle of the street while they "blasted her [the driver] directly in the face..."

Both obstructing traffic and hurling projectiles at cars/drivers are illegal.

+Mike Erickson your "facts" are wrong. There was no obstruction of traffic on the behalf of the bikers. The men and women of the pedal pub got off in the middle of an intersection to throw them off there bikes and beat them to the ground.

Ahh from the YouTube video commenter. Lovely.  I did witness it, I also saw the after effects of how these pedal pubbers injured these bikers. So call me a liar, but  I have no reason to lie. Just a desire to reveal truth and seek justice for those that were mistreated by those with power. It may have been a dumb prank but other pedal pubs that were squirted with water that day reacted very differently. It could have been handled differently. That's all I'll say.

+Renae Cranston Ok, so did they "beat them to the ground"? ...or didn't they?  You said they did in your comment above.  Did that really happen?  If not, you're lying.  I don't see anyone getting beaten on your video.  Which is it?  Everyone is a professional victim these days.  SO tiring.  Let me guess... They're suing.

+Renae Cranston No bikers were injured. Bruises and scrapes only. And you talk about how the bikers were "mistreated", but what about the pedal pubbers? How were they not mistreated by bikers trying to ruin their day? And not just these pedal pubbers, but all the others that day who were attacked? What did they ever do to the bikers? A "prank" is something you do to a friend who you expect to laugh about it or return the favor. This was an attack on innocent people.

+Renae Cranston This is not a prank. A prank is not 'let me go bug the shit out of some strangers'.

ant to be harassed and have shit thrown at them.

'It was just water!' is such an embarrassing misunderstanding of the point.

+Adam Reynolds Who says that "just water" is ok?  I doubt you'd be ok with minding your own business, being pelted by a water balloon, and having whoever did it speed off on a bike before you could do anything.  I'd bet my last cent that you'd be pissed off.

+Pokeysaurus here's what I do know, the bikers were acting like punks, but of you reacted the way the police did, everyone would have been charged. But we have ass hole cops that think they can do whatever they want. Even while off duty.

The cops in this video have had their power go their heads and act on it without thinking all the time.

What if it were children shooting squirt guns? Would they all have jumped out and held them down.

In my view, everyone in this video deserves to have their ass kicked.

+Kerrigan M Of course the cops wouldn't have tackled children. There are plenty of things that a child could do that would warrant a different reaction from the police than if it were an adult.

+Pokeysaurus  Well according to the National Institute of Health, at this link: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/woundsandinjuries.html

"An injury is damage to your body."  Also, "Wounds are injuries that break the skin or other body tissues. They include cuts, scrapes, scratches, and punctured skin."

So the bikers WERE injured.  It's just that they were minor injuries, and therefore easier for you to overlook because, as YOU might say, "Nobody died."

+Adam Reynolds That you know of. It is best to assume that they stuck some other liquid in there just in case.
There could have been a mild bleach or other liquid in what was used to attack those folks trying to relax on one of those PedalPubs.

+Kerrigan M If I pinned someone to the ground who attacked me with water balloons, I would NOT be charged.  Lets get one thing straight.  I am not on board with police doing whatever they want just because they have a badge.  What I AM on board with is a group of people who are attacked by a bunch of 30 year olds who are acting like 13 year olds standing up for themselves.

And it's pointless to ask what if it were children shooting squirt guns, because these werent children.  I could just as easily ask, "What if it was bleach in the water balloons and squirt guns and not water?"

+NorthWriter Really?  If you go to urgent care and they check you over and send you away with a band-aid and two free samples of extra strength tylenol, you're not "injured".

Like those brats who dumped all that filth on a kid who has ASD.

First: Regardless of however harmless, hitting somebody with a water balloon or squirt gun constitute assault in the eyes of the law.  This is not up for debate.

Second: These cops WAAAAY overstepped.  They were drunk and outside their jurisdiction.  You should not be allow to slam a person to the ground, threaten further bodily harm and then detain people because during the day you are issued a badge and a gun.

Third:  It's Summertime in Minneapolis, and when you ride a pedalpub around you have to acknowledge that you've got a bit of a target on your back.  Waterguns (while yes technically constitute assault *see #1) are good old fashioned clean American fun.  Deal with it.
