- February 9, 2014 Gunman kills two at Russian cathedral Gunman kills two at Russian cathedral A gunman opened fire on worshippers at a Russian Orthodox cathedral on Sakhalin Island off Russia’s Pacific coast, killing a nun and a parishioner. The gunman’s motives were unknown. He was taken into custody where he would be given mental health evaluation. The incident did not appear to be connected to Cacasus militant threats against the Olympics in Sochi, or the attempt to hijack a Turkish airliner to Sochi. The media did not note any connection to other attacks on churches and clergy in the middle east or north America.

- February 9, 2014 Fish restaurant in Turkey attacks Jewish customers Algemeiner reports that the owner of a fish restaurant got angry when he realized customers were Jewish, and after hurling anti-semitic insults, he lost control, picked up a dangerous tool and started attacking them, sending them running for their lives.
- A head-on car crash on the Pomona Freeway in Los Angeles, California, kills 6 people. (Arizona Daily Star)
- Another similar head-on car crash on I-275 in the Tampa Bay Area of Florida kills 5 people. (Tampa Bay Times)
- Casualties: Total: 11 killed, 5 killed in Florida, 6 killed California, February 9, 2014: Two California and Florida Wrong Way Crashes Kill 11 Five people were killed at about 2 a.m. on Interstate 275 in Tampa in a collision when a Ford Expedition SUV speeding on the wrong side of the freeway hit a Hyundai Sonata filled with 4 University of South Florida students. All were killed. One driver driving the correct direction filmed the crash which is circulating on the internet. The same day, there was another wrong-way driver in Diamond Bar, California. when Olivia Culbreath, age 21 killed six people whe she drove her 2013 Chevy Camaro the wrong way while speeding at 100 mph and DUI. She hit a Ford Explorer head-on before dawn and was arrested, and faces 6 counts of murder. In February 2015, Culbreath pleaded not guilty to six counts of murder
