- February 24, 2008 Westside, Santa Cruz, CA: An attempted home invasion by six masked animal rights fanatics occurred at the home of a UCSC faculty member who uses mice in breast cancer research. One of the family members who confronted the intruders after seeing his wife and young children to safety in the rear of the house suffered minor injuries after being hit on the hand. Previous harassment of UCSC faculty members and staff including harassing phone calls and threatening graffiti vandalism at the victim’s home and those of other faculty members.

- March 2, 2008 Murder of Jamiel Andre Shaw II Jamiel Shaw II, a 17 year old black high school football start was walking home when two Latino men jumped out a car and shot him in the head and back after asking what gang he was in. Gang member Pedro Espinoza was sentenced to death. Espinoza was born in Mexico, immigrated at age 3 without gaining legal status, and accumulated an extensive juvenile record. His one adult conviction was confronting a man at a park while armed and spent months in County jail for that offense from late 2007 to March 1, 2008. He was released the day before he killed Shaw.
- March 5, 2008 NEFA U.S. v. Hassan Abu-Jihaad. Jury in New Haven found Abu-Jihaad guilty of providing material support to terrorists and disclosing classified national defense information. - (Accident that looks like possible attack) 2 killed 21 injured April 24, 2008 Two killed, at least 21 injured after truck crashes into CTA Train station An empty semitrailer truck driven by Don Wells which had just inexplicably skipped a scheduled cargo pickup drove at full speed as if was out of control with no brakes off an expressway exit ramp. Instead of stopping at the T to turn, it blasted straight through the busy intersection, and without sounding a horn, drove through pedestrians to ram a crowded escalator at the Cermak-Chinatown CTA train station. Two women were killed and 21 others, 7 with critical injuries, and at least 3 were children, were transported to hospitals. The family of the driver was awarded over $1 million in damages after the driver died in June 2008 of his injuries because they argued a medical condition triggered the crash and should have got medical treatment instead of being arrested and cited for negligent driving before being released without charge.

Nicky Reilly, 22, a Muslim convert from Plymouth, pleaded guilty to launching a failed suicide attack on 15 October. The bomber was the only person injured.[1]

- July 30, 2008 Santa Cruz, CA: Copies of crudely made pamphlets titled "Murderers and Torturers Alive and Well in Santa Cruz," listing names, photos, telephone numbers and addresses of University of California, Santa Cruz and filled with threatening language were left in a café for anyone to take. The two scientists attacked in the August 2 firebombing were named in the pamphlet. One day before the attack, mass e-mails were sent by the animal rights group Stop Animal Exploitation Now (SAEN) citing alleged violations of the Animal Welfare Act in Santa Cruz and Berkeley.

- September 2, 2008 Isaac Zamora 2008 Shooting Spree On September 2, 2008, Isaac Zamora killed a female sheriff's deputy and five civilians as part of a shooting rampage in Skagit County, Washington, while wounding two others. Zamora then led police on a high speed chase, still shooting and killing one motorist. He drove to a sheriff's office and surrendered, where he was subsequently arrested. Deputy Anne Jackson responded to a call made by Zamora's mother, Dennise. When Jackson did not check in with dispatch, police responded to the home and found her dead along with another victim Chester Rose 58. Three more bodies were later discovered. - 2 killed 2 injured, 2 arrested sentence to death Dec. 12, 2008 At the Woodburn branch of West Coast Bank. A bomb threat was phoned in to the Wells Fargo Bank branch to get instructions from a cell phone left behind that bank, then police found a green metal box in some bushes at nearby West Coast Bank with a wire sticking out. Officer Hakim didn't wait for X-ray equipment, decided it was a hoax and took it to the bank lobby to take it apart while Tennant and Russell stayed to watch. Hakim said "There, I got it" just as the bomb went off, capture on bank video. Experts believed the bomb was accidentally detonated by a garage door opener or a passing truck driver. The blast killed Oregon State Trooper William Hakim and Woodburn Police Capt. Thomas Tennant. Woodburn Police Chief Scott Russell was critically injured and lost his leg, and wounded bank employee Laura Perkett. The cell phone quickly led to arrests, and a search of the father's house found loaded guns and bomb evidence tossed into a river. Both Bruce Turnidge and son Joshua Turnidge were known for radical anti-government views who feared newly elected president Obama would take away their guns, and had celebrated the Oklahoma City bombing like a game celebration, which they openly shared with FBI agents even as they searched the house. Their biofuel business was failing and laying off employees and they had spoken about robbing a bank, The pair pleaded not guilty, but were both sentenced to death, in 2015 appealing that there were errors.

- arson and terroristic threat on college, suspect arrested October 8, 2008 Middle Tennessee State University Student Set Dorm Afire And Made Terrorist Threats Middle Tennessee State University dental hygiene freshman student Justin Davis was arrested after police figured out he set fire to his dorm and sent an e-mail threatened large-scale devastation on the campus. He faced multiple charges including one count of terrorism and three counts of arson. He pleaded guilty to charges of setting fire to personal property and filing a false report, but not to terrorism.
