Lee who was described by witnesses as an adopted Korean male shot his adoptive mother to death at her house, then went to Northern Mutual Life Insurance on Third Street next to his apartment building and shot two men, the suspect's landlord, Moscow businessman David Trail, and Michael Chin who was visiting from Seattle. Lee then went to a third crime scene where he went to Arby's and asked for manager Belinda Niebuhr by name, and shot her as she tried to escape through the drive-thru window. Belinda Niebuhr, the Arby's manager, played music in local bands in Moscow and also at the Unitarian Universality Church in Moscow. Police found found two semi-automatic pistols, a revolver, a shotgun and a rifle in the vehicle, along with a laptop. Lee's parents ate at the restaurant and knew the manager well, but it's not clear whether Lee did as well. He did not work at the restaurant as far as police knew, and workers who witnessed the attack didn't recognize him, Duke said.

Asian shooting suspect makes court appearance
WHITMAN COUNTY, Wash. - The man accused of going on a shooting spree and killing three people made his first court appearance in Whitman County Monday afternoon. 29-year-old John Lee faces Eluding charges stemming from the pursuit that led to his arrest. Lee will then be extradited back to Latah County in Idaho where he will be charged with three counts of First Degree Murder and one count of Attempted First Degree Murder. Lee's bond for the Eluding charges was set at $500,000 and he will have an arraignment and extradition hearing on Friday. 76-year-old David Trail, 47-year-old Belinda Niebuhr, and the suspect's mother 61-year-old Terri Grzebielski were the three people killed in the shootings. The fourth person, Michael Chin, was taken to the hospital and placed in the Intensive Care Unit. Investigators are still unsure of a motive behind the shootings.
