January 19, 2015 James Rhein, 48 claimed he thought his house was in such disrepair it had to be demolished. He claimed the office to get a permit was close on Martin Luther King day, so in a rush, he rented a bulldozer and flattened the one-level ranch home himself. But he did not telling his wife or anybody else, destroying all his wife's belongings and furniture. He apparently notified utilities companies in advance of the demolition because electric, water and gas lines to the house were shut off, but Rhein was charged with criminal mischief and released on $300 bail.
